Genbu commands the Resistance Army—alternatively known as the Freedom Alliance—on the planet Pirika. After General Gilmore’s coup overthrew President Papi’s legitimate government, Genbu retreated with his forces to a nearby meteor within Pirika’s asteroid belt. This meteor functions as the Resistance Army’s primary base, where Genbu coordinates operations against Gilmore’s authoritarian regime and the PCIA (Picia) security forces commanded by Dracoruru.
When Doraemon, Nobita, Gian, Suneo, and Shizuka arrive on Pirika with Papi to oppose Gilmore, they locate Genbu at the Freedom Alliance’s meteor base. Genbu collaborates with them to craft a strategy undermining Gilmore’s dictatorship, rallying Pirika’s populace and leveraging Papi’s public appeal. His leadership furnishes the organizational backbone for the resistance.
During the climax, Genbu participates in the mass protest ignited by Papi’s broadcast denouncing Gilmore’s tyranny. The widespread demonstration, involving Genbu and Freedom Alliance members, forces Gilmore’s surrender and restores Papi’s government. Genbu’s presence in this pivotal moment underscores his role in mobilizing popular resistance.
The name "Genbu" originates from Chinese mythology and Taoist cosmology, representing the Black Tortoise among the Four Symbols constellations—associated with the north and winter. This naming reflects symbolic ties to protection and resilience within the narrative.
