Description
Noir is the alias adopted by Gauche Suede after he joined the organization Reverse and became a Marauder. As a former Letter Bee, Gauche originally served as a dedicated and compassionate deliveryman who once delivered a young Lag Seeing as a letter to his aunt in Campbell Litus. Driven by the desire to become a Head Bee in order to provide for his younger sister Sylvette, he disappeared after being assigned to the capital, where his heart was damaged and his memories were lost. After encountering the mysterious Lawrence, he was taken in by Reverse and rebranded as Noir, now operating as a plunderer who steals letters from traveling Bees.
As Noir, his personality is markedly different from his former self. Where Gauche was caring, enthusiastic, and ambitious, Noir is cold, distant, and seemingly emotionless. He acts with an assertive and determined demeanor, appearing to have no recollection of Lag, his sister, or his life as a Letter Bee. This loss of memory is tied to the damage to his heart, making him a hollow version of the man he once was. Despite this, he retains a fiercely protective instinct toward his partner Roda, a young girl who serves as his dingo and who, like him, is one of those who could not become spirits.
Noir’s primary motivation is to further the goals of Reverse, an anti-governmental organization that seeks to overthrow the Amberground government and dismantle the artificial sun that sustains the world. He participates in the theft of letters, which are believed to contain the hearts of people, and acts as a formidable obstacle to the Letter Bee organization. His role in the story is that of an antagonist, but he is also a deeply tragic figure, as the protagonist Lag Seeing seeks to restore his lost memories and bring back the person he once admired.
