Description
Onyx is the main antagonist of Dragon Crisis!, a black dragon who leads the criminal syndicate Fang and is hunted by the research organization known as the Society. Outwardly he appears as a young man who dresses in black and has short black hair, but this humanlike form conceals his true nature. Onyx was originally a human who gained his power from a Lost Precious and was transformed into a black dragon, and this origin shapes much of his worldview. He despises humans and treats them with cruelty, believing that humanity is weak, and he resents the notion of humans and dragons living together peacefully.

His primary motivation is a hunger for power, and he is willing to do nearly anything to obtain it. This ambition drives many of his actions throughout the story, including his claim over Rose, a young dragon girl. Onyx insists that the collar Rose wears marks her as his promised bride, and he arranges a wedding ceremony to force the match and secure her for himself. His plans are disrupted when Ryuji Kisaragi, Eriko, and Tokura storm his stronghold to rescue Rose, with Ryuji destroying the collar so that Rose can freely reject the marriage.

Onyx has complicated ties to other dragons. He is described as the former fiance of both Rose and a dragon named Sapphie, and his relationships are marked by his self-serving pursuit of power rather than genuine affection. He also commands a loyal assistant named Kai, who aids him in carrying out his schemes against the protagonists and other targets.

In battle, Onyx wields black dragon magic and can unleash his full power by reverting to his true form as a massive black dragon. In this state he proves overwhelming, and Ryuji alone cannot match him. Only when Rose lends her power to Ryuji is Onyx severely wounded, and his hideout is destroyed in the confrontation. He is forced to retreat, though those who fought him believe he survived and may be planning to return. Over the course of his arc, the story reveals that beneath his monstrous exterior he was once human, and his defeat leaves him as a lingering threat rather than a fully resolved one.
