TV-Series
Description
Cecil Lafitte is a teacher at Saint Marguerite Academy, where she serves as the homeroom instructor for the class attended by Kazuya Kujo and Victorique de Blois. She is a young woman with a short, petite stature and a childlike face, often described as resembling a bird in her movements. Her characteristic appearance includes large, round glasses and fluffy, light brown hair that falls in waves around her shoulders. Typically, she wears a light-colored blouse paired with a skirt that matches the color of her hair.
Her personality is defined by a gentle, friendly, and somewhat childish disposition. Unlike the strict demeanor one might expect from an educator, Cecil is approachable and caring, though she can display a more severe side when the situation calls for discipline. She is notably timid and has an intense fear of ghosts and supernatural events; when confronted with something frightening, her immediate reaction is often to flee, sometimes even discarding her glasses in her panic or fainting entirely. This unreliability extends to other aspects of her life, as she has been known to engage in childish mischief, such as running away from the school's principal with her friend Sophie.
Within the story, Cecil acts as a supportive figure for her students, particularly for the isolated genius Victorique de Blois. Before Kazuya arrived at the academy, Cecil was responsible for managing Victorique's daily affairs, including delivering class notes to her in the botanical garden library. She is one of the very few people whom Victorique does not actively dislike, and she treats Victorique's habit of holding an empty pipe as an affectation, believing the girl is simply trying to act like an adult. Cecil often uses Kazuya as an errand boy, sending him to deliver notes to Victorique, which leads to their first meeting. She is also known to scold Kazuya when he gets into trouble, frequently taking the blame for incidents that are, in reality, the fault of Victorique or their classmate Avril Bradley.
Cecil has a deep sense of care for her students. This is exemplified when she insists on holding an entire private lesson for Avril, who is preparing to return to England. Outside of the classroom, her closest relationship is with Sophie, one of the academy's kitchen staff, and the two are frequently seen together. She is an alumnus of Saint Marguerite Academy, which informs her connection to the school's history and legends. Her role in the story is primarily that of an ally to the main characters, providing them with information and a safe presence within the academy.
As the series progresses towards its conclusion, the onset of a major European war leads to the closure of Saint Marguerite Academy, leaving Cecil unemployed. During this period, she stays at Sophie's home for shelter. However, in the final events of the story after the war has ended, Cecil returns to her post at the academy, which reopens to welcome its students once more. Her defining abilities are not of a detective nature like Victorique's, but rather her general knowledge of school lore and a genuine, maternal concern for the wellbeing of the young people in her care.
