TV-Series
Description
Shino Kiryū is a first-year high school student known for her serious demeanor and natural academic excellence. She has white hair, typically tied in a bun with a purple ribbon, and two shorter bangs frame her face. Her purple eyes and small stature distinguish her, especially next to her friend Saki Saki. In uniform, she wears a purple bowtie and black control-top tights.
She possesses a strong moral compass and a considerate nature, particularly toward Saki Saki. This leads her to strongly disapprove of Naoya Mukai's two-timing relationship with Saki and Nagisa Minase, viewing it as morally wrong. Unbeknownst to others, she conceals her own romantic feelings for Naoya.
Shino met Saki in grade school after transferring to her class. Saki insisted they become friends under the belief that "all girls with small breasts have to support each other," leading to a close bond. Shino first encountered Naoya when he was confessing to Saki and was surprised by his persistence. She advised him to change his approach, but he refused, so she instead assisted him, collaborating on tasks like selecting Saki’s birthday present. During one such occasion, Naoya gave her the purple ribbon she always wears.
When Saki accepted Naoya’s feelings, Shino was already aware of her own affection for him but suppressed it, asking Naoya to pretend their collaborations never happened to preserve her friendship with Saki.
After discovering Naoya’s two-timing, Shino resolved to expose and end it for Saki’s sake. Her attempts repeatedly failed in comedic ways and ironically deepened her feelings for Naoya. She later moved in with Naoya, Saki, and Nagisa for the summer to help Nagisa study, all while still aiming to dismantle the relationship. During this time, she struggled to hide her feelings and attempted to seduce Naoya on several occasions. Rika Hoshizaki eventually exposed her secret and enlisted her as an accomplice during a beach trip. Shino facilitated this by convincing her father to lend their family’s Okinawa house, revealing her wealthy background.
In Okinawa, while cooperating with Rika to interrupt romantic situations, Shino was stranded on a desert island with Naoya. There, she kissed him and fainted before confessing. After Naoya carried her back, Saki witnessed them and kissed Naoya in front of her. Shino then told her mother she intended to transfer schools to avoid the pain, but after being found by Mirika and confronted by Saki, she fully confessed her feelings to Naoya. From that point on, she became determined to become his girlfriend.
Her relationship with Saki Saki evolved from friendship to rivalry after Shino confessed her feelings for Naoya. Although initially shocked, Saki was relieved Shino did not have feelings for her personally, and they reconciled as rivals. Saki later expressed a desire to date Shino as well, shifting their dynamic to mutual lovers, which surprised Shino.
With Naoya Mukai, her relationship began with advising him on his confessions to Saki, which developed into hidden affection. Her internal conflict between this affection and her moral opposition to his two-timing was a central aspect of her character. After many events, she confessed and became his third girlfriend, with Naoya explicitly stating he loves her.
With Rika Hoshizaki, their relationship started when Rika deduced Shino’s feelings for Naoya, leading to temporary cooperation. After Shino’s confession to Naoya, she declared them rivals, which Rika accepted.
A recurring comedic gag involves Shino slipping and falling on Naoya, leaving her completely nude and sitting on top of him. This often prompts Saki to exclaim that "it’s completely inside," to which Shino responds, "No, it is not!" She has been seen naked by Naoya on four recorded occasions. The purple ribbon she always wears was a gift from Naoya. She was the second heroine to kiss Naoya, first in chapter 81, and gave him her second kiss in chapter 131 when she officially became his girlfriend.
Her name, Kiryū, means "paulownia" and "life, living," while Shino means "purple, violet" and "from." Her birthday is November 25, and she likes mackerel fish sticks.
