Description
Inia Sestina is a Soviet TSF pilot and a central figure in the Idol Test Flight, where she and her partner Cryska Barchenowa are collectively known and feared as the Scarlet Twins. Her background is deeply tied to the Soviet Union's clandestine efforts under Alternative III, as she is an artificial ESPer, a psychic human created through advanced genetic engineering and artificial wombs. She belongs to the sixth and final generation of these beings, a fact reflected in her surname, which derives from the Russian word for six. Her birth date is July 27. Physically, Inia has a pale complexion and a slim build, with long silver-white hair featuring a straight-cut fringe and violet eyes. Despite her age, her genome was edited to prevent her body from developing beyond that of a young teenager, preserving her powers. She is known to have a fear of open water, a possible psychological remnant of her creation and upbringing in a suspension tank.

Inia's personality is defined by an innocent, immature, and childlike demeanor that starkly contrasts with her deadly aptitude in combat. Her behavior is often curious and naive, leading her to wander alone and sometimes become lost. She speaks in a mysterious and sometimes disjointed manner, and her emotional state is heavily dependent on her close relationships. Her most treasured possession is a teddy bear doll she calls Misha, which she considers family. Her motivations are simple and emotionally driven; her primary desire is to avoid being separated from Cryska, whom she trusts implicitly as an older sister. As she grows closer to protagonist Yuuya Bridges, she becomes motivated to protect him and the world that Cryska sacrificed herself for, demonstrating a deep-seated loyalty that overrides her programmed purpose.

In the story of Total Eclipse, Inia serves as a member of the Soviet Union's Idol Test Flight at Yukon Base. Her role is that of a prodigious but emotionally vulnerable weapon, whose psychic abilities make her an invaluable asset in the fight against the BETA, but also a volatile one. Her primary relationship is with Cryska Barchenowa, her co-pilot and emotional anchor. The two operate in a tandem-seat Su-37UB Terminator, and later an Su-47E Berkut, where their psychic synchronization makes them an overwhelming force. Inia develops a special, unexplained interest in the protagonist Yuuya Bridges, drawn to the unique colors she perceives in his mind. This fascination leads her to befriend him, serving as an indirect catalyst for the complex relationship that develops between Yuuya and Cryska. She also shows an affinity for Takamura Yui, finding her thoughts enjoyable to read. Inia views the Soviet commander Jerzy Sandek as a superior, unaware of his more ruthless intentions regarding her and Cryska's fates.

Throughout the narrative, Inia undergoes significant development. Initially portrayed as a withdrawn girl who only opens up to Cryska, she gradually becomes more independent and forms her own bonds. Her interest in Yuuya represents her first major interpersonal connection outside her designated partner. A pivotal moment occurs during the Yukon Base Incident, where an Esper control pod artificially induces a state called Prafka, drastically enhancing her abilities but also making her aggressive and controllable. She voluntarily breaks free from this control to prevent herself from killing Yuuya, lapsing into a comatose state as a result. Following this, she escapes from Soviet custody with Yuuya and the dying Cryska. After Cryska's death, Inia mourns with Yuuya and joins him in piloting the Shiranui Phase 03 during the assault on the Evensk hive, showing her growth from a dependent child-soldier into a determined warrior fighting for her own chosen cause. It is confirmed that Inia survives the BETA wars.

Notable abilities make Inia a unique and dangerous pilot. As a sixth-generation ESPer, she possesses powerful telepathic abilities that allow her to read peoples thoughts and interpret their inner feelings. This ability generally makes her uncomfortable around most people, but she enjoys the mental colors of Yuuya, Cryska, and Yui. In combat, her psychic powers enhance her piloting skills, allowing her to perform feats far above average. She prefers close-combat tactics, finding the use of long-range Assault Cannons boring, and her performance in battle is exceptional, even when piloting alone. Her abilities and personality can be dangerously altered by a condition known as Prafka, which enhances her power but also subjects her to destructive impulses, and when artificially induced, can place her under the complete control of an external will. When not under this influence, her childlike innocence remains intact even in the cockpit, a testament to the stark duality of her existence as a manufactured psychic soldier.
