Movie
Description
Nizou Okada is a blind assassin and master swordsman who appears as one of the primary antagonists in Gintama: The Movie, which retells the Benizakura arc. He is a member of the Kiheitai, an extremist anti-government faction led by Shinsuke Takasugi. Nizou lost his sight at a young age and compensated by developing his other senses to an extraordinary degree, becoming a master of iaijutsu, the art of quick-draw sword fighting. He relies on his sense of smell, sharp hearing, and instinct to locate and strike his opponents with lethal speed and precision, often cutting them down before they even realize he has drawn his blade.

His personality is cold, ruthless, and nihilistic. He is driven by a dark, almost aesthetic compulsion to kill; he claims that after living in darkness for so long, he can perceive a faint, beautiful light inside people when they die, and he murders others to witness that light shine. This twisted motivation fuels his role as a remorseless killer. His goals align with Takasugi's desire to destroy the world, which Nizou pursues without hesitation or moral conflict.

In the story, Nizou is first seen attacking Kotaro Katsura, a former ally of Gintoki, and severely wounding him. He later confronts Gintoki Sakata and Shinpachi Shimura. During their initial encounter, Gintoki manages to break Nizou's ordinary sword, forcing him to retreat. Nizou returns later wielding the cursed demonic sword known as the Benizakura. This sword fuses with his arm and acts as a parasite, slowly taking over his body and transforming him into a crazed, monstrous being. As the Benizakura consumes him, his body undergoes significant modifications, and he later reveals that his entire upper torso has been reinforced with cybernetic enhancements. Despite the immense power the Benizakura grants him, it also accelerates his physical and mental degradation.

His key relationship is with Shinsuke Takasugi, whom he serves loyally, sharing Takasugi's desire for destruction. He has no redeeming bonds with the protagonists; instead, he is a direct and deadly enemy to Gintoki, Shinpachi, Kagura, and Katsura. His role in the narrative is that of a physical threat and a vessel through which the danger of the Benizakura is made manifest.

Nizou's development is marked by a downward spiral into mindless rage and bodily corruption. He begins as a disciplined, terrifyingly skilled swordsman and ends as a rampaging monster nearly consumed by his own weapon. He is ultimately defeated by Gintoki in a climactic battle. His exact fate after this defeat is unknown, but he is assumed to have died as a result of the Benizakura's complete takeover of his body. His notable abilities include sense-enhanced combat, superhuman speed and reflexes, mastery of iaijutsu, and the parasitic power granted by the Benizakura, which grants him immense strength, durability, and a fused blade that can be regenerated.
