Description
Okita Sougo is a young officer in the Shinsengumi, the armed police force responsible for maintaining order in Edo, and he serves as captain of its First Division, the unit that leads the vanguard in operations. He is widely regarded as the most talented swordsman in the entire organization. At eighteen years old, he has a slender build, short light brown hair, and red-brown eyes, and he is usually seen in the standard Shinsengumi captain uniform, sometimes wearing a distinctive eye mask associated with his habit of napping while on duty.
His background shaped much of who he is. He lost his parents at an early age and was raised by his older sister, Mitsuba Okita, who cared for him after their parents passed away. As a child he trained at the dojo run by Isao Kondo, who later became the chief of the Shinsengumi and took the young Sougo under his wing. That early connection explains both why he joined the organization and why he maintains a deep bond of loyalty toward Kondo.
