Description
Naoko Sakisaka is a supporting character in the anime Time of Eve. She is the older sister of the protagonist, Rikuo Sakisaka, and is a college student. In her campus life, she appears to be popular and sociable, but at home she is extremely lackadaisical, often staying out late drinking and partying. She is embarrassed when the family's android, Sammy, is sent to pick her up from these outings. Naoko epitomizes the mainstream social attitude of her era: she treats androids entirely as things, regarding them as mere tools or appliances without any emotional depth or inner life. She openly detests what are called dori-kei, the derogatory term for people who become emotionally dependent on androids, and she is quick to accuse her brother Rikuo of showing such tendencies as he begins to treat Sammy more openly and with consideration. Her role in the story is primarily as a foil to Rikuo, representing the conventional, fearful, and dehumanizing perspective toward androids that the series questions. She is not a regular at the Time of Eve cafe and remains largely unaware of her brother's growing inner conflict and the cafe's true nature. Her key relationship is with Rikuo; she serves as a domestic counterpoint that highlights his changing views. She also interacts with Sammy, but only as a master to a servant, never recognizing the android's potential for independent feeling. Naoko does not undergo significant character development in the series; she remains fixed in her worldview, reinforcing the societal pressure that the main characters must navigate. She possesses no special or notable abilities within the story.
