Description
Honoka Matsubara, Karen Kujo's classmate and close friend, possesses waist-length brown hair. Her style typically includes bangs brushed left and a braided section tied with a pale yellow bow over her right shoulder, complementing her light brown eyes. Standing 1.57 meters tall, she wears standard summer and winter school uniforms. Her family runs a cafe where she assists, developing culinary skills like baking sweets and preparing yaki udon using her grandmother's recipe.

Initially a background presence, Honoka joins the main cast in the series' second season. Gentle yet shy, she struggles with self-esteem, often seeing herself as ordinary next to her blonde peers. She harbors a particular admiration for blonde hair, mirroring Shinobu Omiya, leading to a quiet infatuation with Karen. This manifests in small, caring gestures: offering homemade snacks, attempting to wake Karen during class, and assisting with homework. Nervousness surfaces when she hesitates to ask for Karen's email or wishes to wipe chocolate from Karen's cheek but fears being too forward.

She is a member of the tennis club alongside childhood friend Kana Higurashi. During matches, she shouts "Blonde" or "Hair" while serving to maintain focus. Honoka demonstrates exceptional balance, stabilizing on unstable surfaces like balls, a talent featured in merchandise and the series' theme song, later displayed openly in an episode.

Her relationship with Shinobu is positive, bonding over their shared interest in blonde-haired individuals and supporting Shinobu's creative projects. Honoka and Kana maintain their friendship beyond high school, attending the same college. Her development sees her grow from a reserved classmate to a more integrated group member, participating in daily activities and school events while continuing her discreet support for Karen.

The character appears across all media, including both anime seasons, the "Pretty Days" OVA, and the "Thank You!!" movie, consistently part of the ensemble. She remains the only main character involved in a school club, and her progression from anonymity to prominence is a consistent element of her portrayal.
