Description
Cutemon is a small, pink, rabbit-like Digimon who appears as a supporting protagonist in the Digimon Fusion anime series. Recognizable by the pair of headphones, a pink scarf, and matching slippers it wears, this young Digimon serves as a dedicated member of the Fusion Fighters and is considered the partner of the human Angie Hinomoto.
Cutemon’s primary motivation stems from a personal tragedy. It originally lived peacefully with its parents in a village until the Bagra Army attacked. Although Cutemon managed to escape its doomed hometown, it was left alone and orphaned, with its parents captured by the enemy forces. Cutemon was subsequently threatened by a trio of Goblimon bandits before being rescued by a Digimon named Dorulumon. After hearing Cutemon’s story, Dorulumon took on the role of the young Digimon’s protector and travelling companion, a relationship that forms the core of Cutemon’s early journey.
In terms of personality, Cutemon is depicted as kind-hearted, gentle, and notably empathetic, often trying to cheer up its human friends when they are feeling down. Despite its small and vulnerable stature, it demonstrates considerable courage, joining the Fusion Fighters in dangerous battles and attempting to aid other characters. In the Japanese version of the series, Cutemon has a verbal tic, often adding the syllable kyu to the end of its sentences. While it is young and often in need of protection, Cutemon also displays a resilient streak, determined to find its parents despite the overwhelming power of the Bagra Army. It is also known for physically powerful abilities that contradict its size, such as the capacity to lift objects that are much heavier than itself.
Within the story of Digimon Fusion, Cutemon formally joins the Fusion Fighters in the Magma Zone, where it explains its past to the group and becomes a regular member alongside its guardian, Dorulumon. Its primary role in the team is that of a healer and support unit. It uses several powerful techniques to restore the health of its allies, such as Healing Glow, which heals wounds, and its more powerful variant, Great Healing Glow. Despite its supportive nature, it also possesses offensive abilities for self-defense, including an Ultrasonic Song that emits a high-frequency sound capable of damaging opponents.
The central arc of Cutemon’s personal story resolves in the Sweets Zone. Upon arriving there, the Fusion Fighters learn that Cutemon’s parents are being held prisoner in a local castle and are used to power a secret weapon. During the ensuing battle, Cutemon provides medical assistance to its teammates as they fight to shut down the weapon and rescue the prisoners. After a successful rescue, Cutemon is finally reunited with its parents. Although it has the chance to stay with them, Cutemon makes the difficult decision to continue travelling with the Fusion Fighters, bidding an emotional farewell to its family.
Key relationships define Cutemon’s development throughout the series. Its bond with Dorulumon is paternal, with Dorulumon acting as a strict but caring guardian who worries about Cutemon’s safety. With its human partner, Angie Hinomoto, Cutemon shares a close friendship, often acting as a source of comfort for her. Cutemon also works alongside other members of the Fusion Fighters, including Mikey Kudo and Shoutmon.
Later in the series, during the Digimon Hunt arc, Cutemon continues to be a loyal member of Mikey’s team. It attempts to help the troubled hunter Ewan Amano overcome his depression over losing his partner Damemon, only to become a target for the quirky hunter Airu Suzaki, who wishes to add the cute Digimon to her collection. In a moment of crisis, when Mikey is pulled into the DigiQuartz realm and drops his Fusion Loader, Cutemon escapes and successfully delivers the device to Ewan for help, demonstrating its reliability. At the climax of the series, Cutemon is briefly absorbed by the villain Quartzmon but is ultimately freed and reunited with its friends.
