Asuka Takizawa, a third-year at Aozora Middle School, excels athletically and possesses a strong sense of justice. Though initially presenting a cool, unapproachable exterior—especially towards student council president Yuriko Shiratori—she harbors a deeply reliable and caring nature. Her private interests include cooking and playing cute animal games.

She first meets Manatsu Natsuumi by protecting her from threatening individuals. Distrustful of teamwork due to a past incident, Asuka initially refuses to join Manatsu's Tropical Club. However, her inherent helpfulness leads her to assist them in securing a room after overhearing their rejection by the student council. This distrust stems from a fractured friendship with Yuriko originating in elementary school. During their first year of middle school, as tennis doubles partners, Asuka confronted opponents trying to tamper with Yuriko's racket. Their differing reactions caused a rift, leading Asuka to quit the club after feeling unsupported, cementing her reluctance towards collaboration.

When Manatsu, Sango, and Minori face a monster attack, Asuka overcomes her reservations, vowing to protect them. This resolve triggers her Heart Kuru Ring, enabling her transformation into Cure Flamingo, the legendary warriors' close-combat specialist. Her transformation phrase is "Fluttering Wings! Cure Flamingo!" As Cure Flamingo, she features bright crimson hair with turquoise streaks (her charm point), a single gold feather earring, a white top with off-shoulder sleeves, a ruffled red skirt over a shorter white skirt, fishnet stockings, red and white boots, and fingerless gloves. She wields the Heart Rouge Rod weapon, capable of taking a lipstick form. Her solo attack, "Swooping Flamingo Smash," incorporates visual elements reminiscent of a tennis ball, reflecting her athletic past.

Her relationship with Laura begins poorly due to Laura's selfishness, with Asuka clarifying she transformed to protect others, not for Laura. Shared experiences gradually foster appreciation. Asuka navigates ongoing tension with Yuriko, competing fiercely in a school quiz show Yuriko initiated that threatened the Tropical Club's status. During a graduation trip, Asuka confides in Laura about her past with Yuriko. When Yuriko is injured in another monster attack, Asuka ensures her safety before fighting, noting a slight shift in Yuriko's attitude afterwards. Hesitant about her original high school goal, Phoenix Academy, due to quitting tennis, Asuka visits the academy after encouragement from junior friends. There, she encounters Yuriko practicing tennis. A subsequent tennis match becomes a catalyst: Asuka explains her new friends helped her regain motivation and trust, while Yuriko reveals she still wants to play with Asuka and had intended to protect her by withdrawing in the past. Asuka expresses her desire to fight alongside Yuriko. Yuriko later acknowledges recognizing Asuka as Cure Flamingo and urges her not to abandon her academic referral. Prioritizing helping her friends defeat a monster, Asuka utilizes her tennis skills in battle. Following this, she takes a short break from club activities to focus on studying and tennis training, aiming for another chance at Phoenix Academy, thanking Yuriko for helping her regain resolve. They achieve full reconciliation by honestly sharing their feelings.

During the graduation festival, Asuka feels sadness over Laura's impending departure but accepts her choice. After Laura reveals herself as a mermaid and congratulates Asuka, Asuka bids her farewell. Due to a memory-erasing device, Asuka subsequently loses memories associated with Laura.
