TV-Series
Description
Erenfried is a young scientist affiliated with the Artifact Foundation, where he is responsible for the research and development of combat weapons known as Jinx. He is fourteen years old, has a birthday on January 18, and stands 163 centimeters tall. He has red hair, yellow eyes, and typically wears glasses along with a uniform.
In terms of personality, Erenfried possesses a genius-level intellect that is unusual for his age, but this intelligence is accompanied by a notable immaturity. He displays a blend of childlike qualities and cruelty, becoming deeply absorbed in his often dangerous research without much regard for the consequences. He views the sacrifices required for scientific progress as a natural and acceptable part of the process, a perspective that drives many of his actions. He holds a strong resentment toward Rayne, whom he envies for capturing the attention and approval of their mutual superior, Director Yorgo, and he becomes visibly irritated when Rayne addresses him by the nickname Eren. His primary motivation is to prove the perfection of his Jinx creations and to impress Director Yorgo, as he feels indebted to Yorgo for his position within the Foundation and for the funding of his projects. This desire for recognition fuels his determination to succeed where others, in his view, have failed.
Erenfried serves as an antagonist in the first season of the story. He becomes obsessed with obtaining more data from Angelique, believing that studying her unique powers is the key to improving his Jinx and making them more effective against the Thanatos, the monstrous creatures that threaten the world. He orders the Artifact known as Jet to kidnap her, intending to use her for experimentation at the Artifact Foundation's headquarters in Farian. He bypasses orders from Director Yorgo, who had suspended the dispatch of Jinx units, and does not report the destruction they have caused. When confronted by the Aube Hunters who come to rescue Angelique, and later by Yorgo himself, Erenfried declares that his actions were done for the sake of the Foundation, a claim Yorgo dismisses by calling him a fool.
His key relationships heavily influence his development. His admiration for Director Yorgo is a central driving force, and his rivalry with Rayne is rooted in professional jealousy. He also has a connection to the Artifact Jet, who rescues him from a Thanatos attack and carries out his orders to kidnap Angelique.
Erenfried undergoes significant development, particularly in the second season. After Director Yorgo is arrested and sentenced to death for the destruction caused by the Jinx, Erenfried realizes the error of his ways. He comes to understand that the Artifact chip he created, designed to amplify purification powers, puts its user at risk of being possessed by the Thanatos, which is why he had originally destroyed the research data. Filled with remorse, he expresses a desire to see Director Yorgo to apologize for his actions and to obtain the information needed to stop the chip. Angelique comforts him and encourages him to take action rather than simply cry over his mistakes. This marks a turning point, as he transitions from a reckless and ambitious researcher to someone who seeks to atone for the harm he has caused. His character arc is one of being broken down by his failures and rebuilt through the compassion of others, leading him to change his worldview.
His notable ability lies in his scientific genius, specifically his talent for developing advanced and dangerous weapons technology, such as the Jinx units and the Artifact chip. He is proficient enough in this field to be entrusted with a major research project by the Artifact Foundation. However, his abilities are often overshadowed by his flawed judgment and emotional immaturity, which lead him to make disastrous decisions.
