Miyu Irino
Description
Miyu Irino is a Japanese actor, voice actor, and singer born on February 19, 1988, in Tokyo, Japan. He began his career in entertainment at the age of four after joining the Himawari Theatre Group, an agency for child performers. His early interest in performance was sparked by attending stage productions with his parents. Irino made his voice acting debut at the age of seven in 1995, voicing the character Sho in the OVA for the anime series Taiho Shichauzu (You're Under Arrest). He balanced his budding career with his education and graduated from Meiji Gakuin University with a degree in Economics.
Irino's breakthrough role came in 2001 when he was selected to voice Haku, a central character in the Academy Award-winning Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away. This performance at the age of thirteen brought him significant recognition and established him as a prominent voice actor. Following this success, he continued to land leading roles, such as Daisuke Niwa in D.N.Angel (2003) and Syaoran in the Tsubasa Chronicle series (2005-2006), the latter earning him a nomination for "Best Young Actor" at the first Seiyu Awards in 2007. He also became the consistent Japanese voice of the protagonist Sora in the popular Kingdom Hearts video game series, starting with the first game in 2002.
Throughout his career, Irino has demonstrated considerable versatility, taking on a wide array of characters across different genres. In the 2011 coming-of-age drama anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, he voiced the lead character, Jinta "Jintan" Yadomi, a role that required conveying deep emotional pain and growth. He portrayed the everyday humor of a high school student as Tadakuni in Daily Lives of High School Boys (2012) and the determined yet anxious runner Sena Kobayakawa in Eyeshield 21 (2005-2008). His film work includes the critically acclaimed A Silent Voice (2016), where he voiced Shoya Ishida, a former bully seeking redemption. He also voiced Takao Akizuki in the short film The Garden of Words (2013).
