Description
Makoto Kagami is the personal butler and field commander of the Aiba Foundation, serving directly under Ruri Aiba. At eighteen years old, he has already graduated from Harvard University, a testament to his exceptional intellect and dedication. Despite his advanced education, he enrolls in the same high school as Ruri and Alma Tandoji, becoming class president, in order to stay close to Ruri and support her mission. His primary motivation is his deep loyalty to Ruri, whom he has loved since childhood, and his desire to protect her and help her combat the Darkstones. This personal devotion drives him to take on a variety of responsibilities, including overseeing the Aiba Foundation's field operations and commanding a unit of maids directly under his authority.
In the story, Makoto serves a crucial supporting role. He is often the voice of caution and strategy, providing tactical oversight during battles against the Darkstones. He also acts as a mentor to Alma, helping him understand and control the power of the Sacred Seven. However, Makoto harbors a sense of jealousy toward Alma because of the unique power that Alma wields, a power that Makoto himself cannot possess. This internal conflict adds complexity to his character, as his admiration and resentment coexist. His relationship with Ruri is the emotional core of his character; his feelings for her are genuine and long-standing, influencing his decisions and interactions throughout the series.
Makoto is highly skilled in combat and operates a personal mecha called the Engagement Suite, which he pilots to fight Darkstones directly. This mecha is his primary means of engaging in battle, compensating for his lack of inherent supernatural abilities. Beyond his combat prowess, he is an accomplished strategist and leader, effectively coordinating the Aiba Foundation's resources. Over the course of the series, Makoto's character develops as he learns to trust and cooperate with Alma, gradually overcoming his jealousy and working as part of a team to protect those they care about. His notable abilities include his piloting skills, tactical acumen, and his dedication to his duties as a butler and commander.
