Description
The protagonist of the 2008 anime series is a character known simply as Kaiba, though his true name is later revealed to be Warp. When the story begins, he has no memories and a mysterious hole through the center of his chest, in addition to a tattoo of three circles forming a triangle on his abdomen. Due to his amnesia, he is initially quiet and speaks very little, acting largely on instinct as he navigates a strange and often cruel universe.
As the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that Kaiba is no ordinary person. He possesses immense, albeit initially uncontrollable, power. This includes a notable invulnerability that allows him to survive physical damage unscathed and latent telekinetic abilities capable of destroying or halting large objects with his mind. Furthermore, his mind contains a vastly detailed and complex memory bank, effectively giving him total recall once his past is unlocked. He had been living as a distant, monitored ruler until he lost his memory and fell through the memory-erasing clouds that separate the rich from the poor.
His most significant relationship is with Neiro, a member of a resistance group known as Issoudan. Despite his confused state, Kaiba forms a deep bond with her, and she becomes a central figure in his quest. Neiro is eventually executed by the governing computer of his palace, but Kaiba, in his capacity as the memory king, later clones her and restores her memories. He is also aided by a small flying creature named Hyohyo, who carries an unedited copy of Neiro's memories, and by Popo, a morally complex revolutionary whose own memories have been repeatedly edited.
