Description
Born in the small and secluded Adai Village, Darry Adai is the twin sister of Gimmy Adai. Orphaned at a young age, she and her brother were cared for by a young man named Rossiu. When their village's population grew too large, Darry and Gimmy were among those chosen to be exiled to the dangerous surface world, a fate Rossiu chose to share with them.

As a young girl, Darry is a striking contrast to her more energetic and impulsive brother. She is characterized by her quiet, shy, and reserved nature, often preferring to stay in the background and observe rather than participate. A constant companion during her childhood is a small plush doll she clings to, a visual representation of her need for comfort and security in a harsh world. On the surface, she and Gimmy are taken in by Team Dai-Gurren, where they largely serve as part of the team's extended family, providing moments of comic relief during their travels and battles.

Following a seven-year time skip, Darry has matured into a teenager, and her personality has undergone a significant transformation. While she remains less talkative than her brother, she has shed her shyness to become a confident and highly capable young woman. As a pilot of a Grapearl unit, she is depicted as being the more rational and perceptive of the two siblings. Her approach to combat is characterized by careful thought and planning, and she is often seen scolding Gimmy for his recklessness. This calm, perceptive, and brave demeanor establishes her as a skilled soldier in her own right.

Darry's primary motivation is tied to her loyalty to Team Dai-Gurren and her desire to fight for humanity's future. Alongside her brother, she is eager to contribute to the fight against the Anti-Spirals, pleading to be allowed to join the final battle. Her strong bond with her twin brother, Gimmy, is a central pillar of her character. This relationship is one of mutual protection and partnership, as seen when she saves him from an attack, and later when he rescues her after her Grapearl is shot down in battle. She also shares a deep connection with Rossiu, who was a guardian figure to her in her early years.

Throughout the story, Darry develops from a passive, background child into an active and assertive fighter. Her role evolves from comic relief to a key member of the Grapearl Squadron, serving as a commander in the epilogue. In the final battle against the Anti-Spiral, she demonstrates great courage, fighting alongside her comrades and grieving deeply for those who sacrifice themselves to protect her and Gimmy. In the distant epilogue, twenty years after the war's end, Darry has become one of the new pilots of the legendary Gunmen, Gurren Lagann, solidifying her legacy as a hero who carries the fighting spirit of Team Dai-Gurren into the future. Her name is derived from the Japanese word "hidari," meaning left, which complements her brother's name, derived from "migi" (right).
