Description
Conrad L. Laurence is a Knight Master from the Jibral Kingdom who appears in the anime Blue Dragon: Trials of the Seven Shadows. His background is tied to his homeland of Jibral, and he takes on a leadership role by organizing a resistance movement against the Gran Kingdom, fighting alongside Shu and his party. In the second season, which takes place two years later, Conrad continues to support Shu’s group in their battles against the Investiture Beings.

Conrad is depicted as a dedicated and courageous ally, willing to put himself in direct danger for the sake of others. His actions reveal a strong sense of duty and a protective nature, particularly toward Shu. This is most evident during a fierce confrontation involving Hildegard, Fagino, and a legion of dragons. In this life-threatening situation, Conrad makes the split-second decision to sacrifice his own life, using his body as a shield to protect Shu from a direct attack by Fagino. This act of selflessness serves as a critical moment for the protagonists, demonstrating the depth of his commitment to their cause and to the safety of the younger generation.

In terms of his role in the story, Conrad is a supporting character who provides vital assistance to the main heroes. He forms an investigative party alongside other characters named Griz, Daner, and Legolas, with the specific mission of researching ruins, indicating his proactive approach to gathering information and resources against the growing threats. His relationships are primarily defined by his loyalty to the Jibral Kingdom and his collaborative partnership with Shu and the other main characters. He works closely with his investigative team members as trusted comrades.

Conrad experiences a significant development arc tied to his apparent death. After sacrificing himself to save Shu, he is initially believed to have been killed. However, it is later revealed that he survived the ordeal and is found recovering in Talta Village, occurring during the time of Shu and Blue Dragon’s fight against a character named Rudolph. This revelation confirms his resilience and allows him to return to the narrative, though his abilities are shown to have clear limits given the severity of his injuries, as he is in a state of recovery after the attack. As a Knight Master, Conrad demonstrates notable abilities in combat and leadership, skillfully handling himself in battles against formidable foes like dragons and the Investiture Beings.
