Description
Kishibe stands tall and grizzled, sporting a scraggly beard and a prominent stitched scar running from his mouth to his left ear. His once-black hair is now grey, though the anime shows it blonde. He wears the standard Public Safety Devil Hunter uniform with a large overcoat and carries a silver hip flask he drinks from often. His ears bear two piercings on the left and one on the right.

He projects jaded stoicism and brutal honesty, speaking in a relaxed, polite tone while showing little overt emotion. Years of devil hunting have driven him somewhat insane; he champions the belief that the "craziest" hunters, devoid of fear, are the most effective against devils. Despite professing hatred for fiends and devils, he exhibits unexpected sentimentality, forming genuine affection for Denji and Power during their training. He cares for their cat, Meowy, expresses concern for their safety to Makima, and refuses to view Quanxi's corpse due to their past, revealing deep emotional layers. He openly admits to enjoying "booze, women, and killing devils."

A veteran devil hunter, Kishibe has a history with the assassin Quanxi. He repeatedly asked her to be his partner in his youth over at least nine years, facing rejection each time. Early in his career, he advised a grieving Himeno at a cemetery after she lost partners, stressing that survival hinges on insanity, not strength or bravery – advice shaping her views on Aki Hayakawa.

Acknowledged as Tokyo Special Division 4's strongest human member, Kishibe trains Denji and Power. His methods are unorthodox and brutal: he begins by snapping their necks to demonstrate vulnerability despite regeneration, then forces nonstop combat. He emphasizes tactical thinking over innate powers, repeatedly defeating them to force adaptation and finally lands a shallow cheek cut only after days of effort, marking progress. He insists they call him "Master" and warns them never to trust his words, prioritizing practical survival.

Deeply suspicious of Makima, Kishibe confronts her about her awareness of the ambush that killed most of Special Division 1. He declares indifference to her motives if she sides with humanity but calls her a liar when she claims to want to save people. During the International Assassins arc, he coordinates defenses against foreign threats and personally subdues two of Quanxi's fiends who underestimated his remaining body parts for contracts. He attempts to ally with Quanxi against Makima, passing her a written proposal during their fight, but she rejects him. Quanxi throws him through a window; he survives by slowing his fall with a knife. After Makima kills Quanxi, he refuses to remove his blindfold to avoid seeing her corpse.

Following Makima's manipulation and murder of Power, Kishibe leads a task force to eliminate her. He incapacitates Makima and summons the Hell Devil to condemn her to hell, though she escapes via her contract with the Japanese Prime Minister. He later holds her at gunpoint, engaging in a tense conversation where she reveals her plan to use the Chainsaw Devil to erase fears and create a "better" world. Kishibe witnesses her final defeat by Denji. Afterwards, he retrieves Denji from a dumpster and shelters him and Kobeni. He encourages Denji to articulate his dreams, reinforcing his pragmatic mentorship.

Kishibe locates the reincarnated Control Devil, Nayuta, in China and entrusts her to Denji's care. He suggests Denji's love could prevent Nayuta from becoming a threat like Makima, facilitating Denji's transition to guardian.

Kishibe possesses superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, and durability, allowing him to overpower hybrids like Denji and Power effortlessly. He survives high-impact falls and reacts swiftly to surprise attacks. He maintains contracts with the Claw Devil, Knife Devil, and Needle Devil, though the terms and costs remain unspecified. His combat style emphasizes knife mastery and hand-to-hand techniques; he disables Denji with surgical knife strikes and throws knives accurately over long distances. He prioritizes fundamental skills and tactical ingenuity over flashy powers.
