Jason Douglas
Description
Jason Douglas is an American actor recognized for his extensive work in voice acting for anime, as well as his performances in film and television. Born on February 14, 1973, his career began in the mid-1990s and is rooted in a formal education in theater from the University of Houston School of Theater. His entry into voice acting occurred when he was recruited by friends at the Houston-based company ADV Films, one of the pioneering distributors of anime in North America. His first voice role was the lead in the film Kimagure Orange Road: Summer's Beginning, which provided an intensive introduction to the craft of dubbing.
Douglas is perhaps best known for providing the voice of Beerus, the God of Destruction, in the Dragon Ball franchise. He first voiced the character in the video game Dragon Ball Xenoverse before fully developing the role for the film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and the subsequent series Dragon Ball Super, as well as films like Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. His performance as Beerus has become a signature role, a character he describes as an ancient, powerful, and easily bored being motivated by new challenges and culinary delights. He was cast in the role by Christopher Sabat, a prominent voice director and actor at the studio then known as Funimation.
His extensive anime filmography includes a wide array of characters across numerous popular series. He plays the stern but kind father figure Thors in Vinland Saga, the mysterious and powerful Kishibe in Chainsaw Man, and the seasoned detective Tomomi Masaoka in Psycho-Pass. Other notable roles include the gentle giant Gildarts Clive in Fairy Tail, the enigmatic Kuzan/Aokiji in One Piece, Major Miles in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Gotou in Parasyte. He has also voiced characters in series such as Attack on Titan (Miche Zacharius), Dr. Stone (Kokuyo), The Case Study of Vanitas (Ruthven), Dead Mount Death Play (Tsubaki Iwanome), and The Dawn of the Witch (the Mercenary).
Throughout his career, Douglas has maintained strong working relationships with major Texas-based production companies. He was part of the original ensemble of voice actors at ADV Films, working with industry pioneers, and has continued to work extensively with Funimation (now Crunchyroll) and Sentai Filmworks. This long-standing presence in the industry has led to him voicing characters in hundreds of titles, demonstrating significant versatility.
Beyond voice acting, Douglas has an active career in live-action film and television. He is known for his recurring role as Tobin in the acclaimed series The Walking Dead and has made guest appearances in other major shows such as Breaking Bad, Preacher, and Nashville. His film appearances include roles in No Country for Old Men, Sin City, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. His work across both live-action and voice acting has earned him recognition within the industry, including nominations for BTVA Anime Dub Awards for Voice Actor of the Year in 2014 and for Best Male Supporting Vocal Performance in an Anime Movie/Special in 2015.
