Description
Paz is a supporting character in the anime Ghost in the Shell: Arise, which depicts the period before the formation of Public Security Section 9. During this time he becomes a member of the specialist team that Motoko Kusanagi builds around herself. Paz is a former lieutenant in the Army Airborne Special Forces First Division, and his military background is central to how he functions within the group. He is a bald man with cybernetic eyes, and his appearance is that of a hardened soldier shaped by years of service.

His primary area of expertise is the handling of explosives, and within the team he serves as the operative responsible for demolition, breaching, and ordnance-related work during operations. In addition to this combat specialty, he is highly skilled in cyber warfare and network investigation, and he possesses strong abilities in electronic warfare and internet-based intelligence gathering. His skill set is therefore broader than his demolitions role might suggest, allowing him to contribute to missions both in the field and in a technical support capacity.

In terms of personality, Paz is reserved, professional, and dependable. Despite his rough and imposing appearance, he is characterized as having a delicate personality, a contrast that defines much of his quiet presence in the series. He does not seek attention and carries out his duties with discipline. His personal motivations are not explored in great depth, but his conduct throughout the story reflects a commitment to his work and to the team he serves.

Paz becomes allied with Motoko Kusanagi during the events of the series and is one of the specialists who join the informal unit she assembles. Within that unit, he works alongside other operatives such as Batou, Togusa, Ishikawa, Saito, and Borma, each of whom contributes a different area of expertise to the group's operations. His relationship with Kusanagi is one of professional support; he follows her leadership and operates as a reliable member of her team through the dangerous situations they face.

His role in the story is that of a supporting operative rather than a central protagonist. The narrative focuses on the formation of the team that would later become Section 9, and Paz is presented as part of that foundation, contributing military experience and technical capability. His development over the course of the series is limited, as little is revealed about his personal history or life outside his duties, but his consistent presence in the unit demonstrates his value as a trusted and competent member of the group.
