Description
Kunagi is a young man who works in a cat cafe but lives with no memory of his past, his true identity left unexplained. He has long bluish-black hair fastened with a cat bell, blue eyes, and a tired look deepened by the dark circles beneath them. Initially seen in a simple white shirt, jeans, and a black cat apron, he later adopts armor and a welding mask while never abandoning the apron, a visual link to the ordinary world that was lost.

His personality is defined by a profound love for cats that borders on the supernatural. Even after a virus known as the Nyandemic spreads and turns any human who makes physical contact with an infected feline into a cat, Kunagi cannot suppress the desire to pet them. This inner conflict shapes his every action. He typically wears a blank expression but becomes visibly emotional when distressed. He is clever, serious about his duties, and surprisingly agile when escaping swarms of cats, yet he is also prone to overwhelming guilt if he must harm a cat, sometimes crying and begging forgiveness after using deterrents like a sprinkler. He possesses extensive knowledge of feline behavior and constantly recites cat facts even in dangerous situations.

His primary motivation is to survive without succumbing to the virus, all while protecting the people around him and trying to recover his lost memories. He leads a small group of survivors through urban ruins overrun by cats, using his unique understanding of the creatures to navigate threats. The struggle between survival instinct and his affectionate obsession drives his journey. As the story progresses, he learns to better manage his impulses and grows into a more focused protector, even as the mystery of his past continues to pull at him.

Kunagi’s most important relationship is with Kaoru, the sister of his coworker Gaku. When Gaku becomes infected early on, he asks Kunagi to protect Kaoru, and Kunagi takes that responsibility seriously. Kaoru becomes his trusted partner, grounding him when his cat-loving nature threatens to overwhelm reason. He also watches over Arata, a younger survivor who looks up to him as a mentor and protector. Tanishi, another initial survivor, remains part of their group. With Tsutsumi, a cautious member of the survivor network, Kunagi maintains a wary but cooperative dynamic. He later coordinates with Len Ward and Masaki Ward, a research duo working on the biological aspects of the Nyandemic, accepting their data to assist in missions.

His notable abilities include superhuman physical prowess, exceptional agility, and refined survival and combat skills. He uses his encyclopedic knowledge of cats not just as trivia but as a tactical advantage, often predicting or manipulating feline behavior. Guilt over hurting the animals he adores occasionally forces him to find creative, non-violent solutions, making him a resourceful and unpredictable leader in a world where the line between threat and temptation is always thin.
