Movie
Description
Galev is the primary antagonist in the film Slayers Return. He is the self-proclaimed megalomaniacal leader of the organization known as Zein, through which he aims to achieve world domination. Despite his grandiose ambitions, much of his power is later revealed to be a bluff, and his organization is a shadow of its former self, consisting of only himself and his single, loyal underling, Zahhard.
In terms of personality, Galev presents himself with the pomp and circumstance befitting a classic fantasy tyrant. He harbors a deep desire for power and control, seeking an ancient artifact to make his dreams of conquest a reality. However, the film positions him as a satirical take on such villains; his schemes are undercut by his own incompetence and a lack of resources, making him a comedic figure within the story's context. He is driven by the discovery of a legendary superweapon mentioned in an old magic book, believing it will grant him invincibility.
Galev's role in the story is to be the central obstacle that the protagonists, Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent, must overcome. He has enslaved the village of Biaz to aid in his search for the hidden elven treasure. His actions inadvertently set the plot in motion when a villager named Saleena escapes to seek help, drawing Lina and Naga to confront him. Key to his plan is his relationship with his sole henchman, Zahhard, who assists him in his schemes. Another significant relationship is with the hired henchmen he has failed to pay; their frustration with Galev leads them to turn against him, adding to his considerable troubles.
Galev does not undergo any notable personal development throughout the film, remaining a consistent figure of villainous parody. His most notable ability is his ambition and the knowledge he gained from an ancient magic book, which leads him to the powerful artifact. Ultimately, his quest results in the discovery of a colossal golem made of the nearly indestructible magical metal orihalcon. However, he is unable to control this treasure, and it becomes a threat to everyone, including himself. After the golem is destroyed, Galev becomes the subject of the village's ire, having wasted their money on costumes for his failed organization, and is chased off as a result.
