Description
Rikimatsu Ariko, known by his Ainu name Ipopte, is a soldier of the Seventh Division of the Imperial Japanese Army in Golden Kamuy, holding the rank of Private First Class. He is an Ainu man originally from the area near Noboribetsu in Hokkaido, and his Ainu name Ipopte means to make something boil in the Ainu language. His background carries significant weight in the story because his father, Siromakur Ariko, was one of the seven Ainu men who gathered the gold that became the central object of the conflict, having done so to resist Japanese rule and to fight for the independence of Hokkaido. This heritage places Ariko at the intersection of the military world he serves in and the Ainu people whose fate is entangled with the hidden treasure.
