Description
"Possessions" is a short anime film that blends elements of fantasy and folklore into a compact narrative. The story centers around a traveler named Shin, who seeks shelter from a storm in an abandoned shrine. Inside, he encounters a series of inanimate objects that come to life, each embodying a spirit with its own personality and grievances. These spirits, ranging from a torn umbrella to a broken lantern, demand that Shin repair them before they will allow him to leave. As Shin works to fulfill their requests, the spirits reveal their backstories, which are rooted in neglect and abandonment by their former owners. Through these interactions, the film explores themes of respect for objects, the passage of time, and the emotional connections people form with the items they use. The narrative is driven by Shin’s patience and resourcefulness, as well as the spirits’ gradual transformation from hostile to grateful entities. The film concludes with Shin successfully repairing the objects, allowing the spirits to find peace, and enabling him to continue his journey. The story is a poignant reflection on the value of care and the unseen lives of everyday objects.
