Description
Satoru Kanzaki shared a childhood with Shin Kazama at Wakaba Orphanage, forging a bond that later fractured under professional rivalry. As trainees at Yamato Airlines, Kanzaki grew resentful of Shin’s romantic ties to CEO’s daughter Ryoko Tsugumo and his career success. This jealousy culminated in Paris, where Kanzaki exploited Shin’s drunken state to trick him into signing a mercenary contract with Aslanian forces, exiling him to Area 88.

With Shin gone, Kanzaki climbed Yamato’s ranks through deceit, eventually brokering a partnership with Maxwell International to replace the airline fleet with flawed MB-18 jets. The subsequent crash of Yamato Flight 31, claiming all lives, triggered investigations that unmasked his embezzlement, tax fraud, and safety violations, resulting in his imprisonment.

The manga extended Kanzaki’s vendetta: partnering with Sicilian mafia leader Giuseppe Farina, he hired assassins like “Phoenix” Charlie to kill Shin at Area 88. After repeated failures, Kanzaki engaged Shin in a fatal aerial duel over Japan, his death coinciding with the birth of his son Julianna mid-battle.

The OVA concluded earlier, arresting Kanzaki after Shin’s return. The 2004 TV series altered his arc further: photojournalist Makoto Shinjou’s proof of Shin’s survival caused Ryoko to abandon her wedding to Kanzaki, leaving his fate ambiguous.

Across adaptations, Kanzaki’s actions stemmed from intertwined envy and ambition, manifesting as systemic manipulation and relentless attacks on Shin’s life. His arc traced a decline from strategic scheming to obsessive self-destruction, with narrative endpoints varying by medium but consistently underscoring his refusal to concede defeat.
