Description
Adrian Rubinsky is the fifth Landesherr of the Dominion of Fezzan, an autonomous region strategically situated between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. Known as the "Black Fox of Fezzan" for his mastery of political intrigue, he covertly exacerbated conflicts between the two great powers to advance Fezzan’s economic and strategic interests. Under his rule, Fezzan operated as a neutral trading hub and espionage nexus, profiting from arms deals, intelligence brokerage, and refugee transport while maintaining plausible deniability. Rubinsky assumed leadership after Terraist Church assassins eliminated his predecessor, Walenkov, for seeking independence from their influence. Although Fezzan nominally fronted for the Terraists, Rubinsky privately rejected their goal of a galactic theocracy, instead pursuing Fezzan’s economic supremacy. He orchestrated schemes to prolong the Empire-Alliance war, including leaking Imperial plans before the Battle of Astarte, supplying the Artemis Necklace defense system to trigger the Castrop Rebellion, and framing Admiral Yang Wen-li for disloyalty. He later facilitated the kidnapping of the child emperor Erwin Josef II to create a pretext for Reinhard von Lohengramm to invade the Alliance. Reinhard subverted Rubinsky’s plans by annexing Fezzan outright in 798 UC. During the Imperial takeover, Rubinsky’s illegitimate son, Rupert Kesserling, who served as his aide, attempted to assassinate him but was killed by Rubinsky’s bodyguards—an event that brought Rubinsky lasting regret. Following annexation, Rubinsky lived as a fugitive for years, directing remnant Terraist cells and hidden assets to sabotage the Lohengramm Empire while suffering from a terminal malignant brain tumor. Imperial minister Paul von Oberstein traced him via medical suppliers to Heinessen. Upon arrest, with less than a year to live, Rubinsky refused sustenance and disconnected his life support, activating a brainwave‑triggered transmitter that detonated pre‑planted explosives. The resulting destruction consumed thirty percent of Heinessenopolis, causing thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousands of injuries. Rubinsky maintained a long‑term relationship with Dominique Saint‑Pierré, who sheltered him during his fugitive years, and he expressed complex feelings about legacy, including asking whether she would bear him another child.
