Description
Klaus Grad is a character from the anime Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season. He is a top executive of the anti-government resistance group known as Katharon, which opposes the oppressive rule of the Earth Sphere Federation and its elite military force, the A-Laws. He initially operated from the European branch of the organization before being dispatched to the Middle East branch.

Grad is defined by a strong sense of duty toward his comrades and a deep compassion for the people of the Middle East, who suffer heavily under the cruelty of the A-Laws. He is an effective commander dedicated to monitoring the activities of the A-Laws and ensuring the safety of his fellow resistance fighters. His primary motivation is to overthrow the Earth Sphere Federation government and work toward the construction of a more orderly and just society.

In the story, he plays a key supporting role for the protagonists of Celestial Being. Early in the second season, a dangerous rescue operation undertaken by his group nearly fails, forcing them into a desperate retreat. Celestial Being's Gundams intervene, saving Grad and his forces. Grateful for the assistance, Grad recognizes an opportunity for cooperation, believing Celestial Being shares his goals. He shelters the crew of the Ptolemaios 2, allowing them to use a Katharon base located in the Arabian desert. This alliance establishes a cooperative relationship between the experienced resistance network and Celestial Being that lasts throughout the conflict.

His key relationships are primarily centered on his role within Katharon, where he leads his fellow fighters and works alongside other resistance executives. His interaction with Celestial Being, particularly its tactical commander Sumeragi Lee Noriega, evolves from wary cooperation into firm mutual respect, as their shared objective of dismantling the A-Laws aligns their efforts.

After the defeat of the A-Laws and the Innovators, Grad transitions into a new role within the reformed political structure. He becomes a member of the Earth Sphere Federation Assembly, indicating his shift from clandestine military leader to formal political representative. This development from a resistance commander into a post-war political figure marks a significant arc for the character. He appears in the film Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer, continuing in his capacity as a political leader in the new world order.

His notable abilities lie not in physical combat or mobile suit piloting, but in strategic leadership, organizational command, and political acumen. As a resistance commander, he successfully organizes complex military operations, manages logistics, and negotiates alliances. His later role as an assembly member highlights his capability to function effectively in the transitional political landscape of the post-war era.
