Mikan Katsuragi is a contract employee for the magical dispatch organization Astral and a specialist in Shinto magic. She comes from the Katsuragi family, an old and world-renowned line of Shinto practitioners. At a young age, she ran away from home due to feelings of inferiority toward her talented older sister, a personal conflict that she later resolves. She is a third-year primary school student and the youngest member of Astral, often addressing the organization’s president, Itsuki Iba, as onichan and regarding her fellow members as family despite the lack of blood relation.

Mikan is typically seen wearing a white-and-red shrine maiden outfit with her light-pink hair tied in twin tails. Her demeanor is cheerful, optimistic, and hardworking. She has a strong desire to learn about magic and frequently asks questions of her older colleagues. Despite her youth, she is a skilled mage who thinks quickly and can devise solutions to complicated magical problems. She also handles administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing client information, and she serves as a field agent on missions alongside other members.

Her magical abilities are rooted in Shinto tradition, with a primary focus on purification and the creation of barriers. She is Astral’s main defensive mage, specializing in protective spells rather than offensive ones, which has earned her the description of a barrier warrior. She is the most proficient member of the group when it comes to purification, but this comes with a drawback: she is also the most susceptible to spell-wave contamination, a form of magical radiation poisoning. Like all mages in her world, Mikan can see and interact with ghosts and spirits. Additionally, she earns money on the side by writing charms and conducting ceremonies, and she even sewed her own ceremonial robes. Her personal motivation is to protect her companions and to grow into a powerful magician, a goal she pursues with dedication and a positive attitude.
