Description
Kureha Mibu is an eighteen-year-old third-year student at Kenbukan High, born on April 9 in Shinjuku, Tokyo. His background is shaped by a traumatic event: his mother was severely injured in a car accident and left in a comatose state. After this, young Kureha was placed in the care of his aunt and uncle, who routinely belittled his mother, accusing her of neglecting her child for male suitors. Pity for his mother and the harsh treatment he endured fostered in him a strong, absolute sense of justice and a rigid, black-and-white view of right and wrong. Seeking purpose and strength, he turned to martial arts, eventually becoming an assassin and one of the Twelve Generals of the Martial Fist, a group he believed was dedicated to eliminating criminals the law could not reach.
Kureha’s personality is defined by his unwavering belief that his actions serve a righteous purpose. He follows his director’s orders obediently, convinced he is protecting the innocent by removing those he perceives as evil. This certainty is challenged through a unique ability: he can sense a person’s evil intentions. When he confronts Tatsuma Hiyuu, he feels no ill will from the boy, which creates deep internal conflict, as his senses contradict his mission. That conflict is further heightened by the discovery that both he and Tatsuma studied under the same martial arts teacher. This shared background explains their similar fighting styles and the matching tekou—wrist and hand armor—they both wear, leading to mutual astonishment during their encounters.
As the story progresses, Kureha learns that the Martial Fist and its leader, Munetaka Yagyuu, have been using him and the other Generals for an evil outcome. This revelation shatters his black-and-white worldview, leaving him guilt-ridden and uncertain. He undergoes a significant development, abandoning blind obedience and his former role as an assassin. In the end, he chooses to support Tatsuma Hiyuu, redefining his sense of justice from punitive to protective. He fights not to eliminate perceived evil, but to genuinely defend others.
Kureha’s key relationships revolve around Tatsuma. Their shared martial lineage and the unexpected absence of malice he senses from Tatsuma form the emotional core of his turnaround. The bond with his mother, though she is comatose, remains a driving force behind his need to see justice done. His relationship with Munetaka Yagyuu begins as loyalty but becomes a source of manipulation that prompts his growth.
Notable abilities include expert-level martial arts, honed by the same master who trained Tatsuma, and the supernatural capacity to perceive a person’s evil aura. He wields tekou as part of his combat gear. While his role in the anime is that of a supporting character, his journey from obedient agent of the Martial Fist to an ally fighting for moral clarity adds an important dimension to the narrative, illustrating how someone with a rigid moral code can be redeemed when forced to confront the truth.
