Description
Osode Yotsuya is the younger sister of Oiwa in the Yotsuya Kaidan story arc of the anime Ayakashi - Samurai Horror Tales. She was engaged to Satou Yomoshichi, the man she loved, with the expectation of building a future together. Her life is upended on the same night that Iemon Tamiya murders Oiwa's father. Naosuke, a servant obsessed with Osode, kills and disfigures the man he believes to be Yomoshichi and stages the body so that the death appears to be the work of bandits. In truth, the dead man was a body double, and Yomoshichi is still alive, though no one knows it at the time. When Osode and Oiwa discover the two bodies, Iemon and Naosuke pretend to be shocked and persuade the sisters that the sensible course is for Oiwa to marry Iemon and for Osode to marry Naosuke, with both men promising to hunt down the alleged killers. Osode is hesitant, but Naosuke swears that the marriage will be in name only and that he will not touch her without her consent, so she reluctantly agrees.
Osode is a dutiful, loyal, and trusting young woman who endures hardship without complaint. She is devoted to her sister Oiwa and remains faithful to the memory of Yomoshichi even after she believes he is dead. Early in the story she appears passive and easily manipulated, but she reveals a firmer resolve once her sister is gone. After learning that Oiwa has died as a result of Iemon's betrayal, Osode agrees to fully consummate her marriage with Naosuke on the condition that he take revenge against Iemon.
