Description
King Drasil, known as Yggdrasil in the original Japanese version, is the central antagonist of the final story arc of Digimon: Data Squad. It is not a traditional Digimon but the host computer and sovereign ruler of the Digital World, a position that grants it absolute authority over the realm and its inhabitants. Its name is a direct reference to Yggdrasil, the immense mythical tree that connects the nine worlds in Norse mythology.

In the story, King Drasil's background is tied to events that occurred years before the main plot. The character is first mentioned by the Digimon Lord Merukimon, who revealed its existence to the human Dr. Spencer Damon. Spencer, seeking to understand the Digital World, went on a journey to find the sovereign. Upon succeeding with the help of the Digimon BanchoLeomon, he was brought before King Drasil's castle. However, due to a series of unprovoked attacks on the Digital World by the human scientist Akihiro Kurata, King Drasil concluded that all humans posed a lethal threat to Digimon. As a result, it ordered the Royal Knights to seize Spencer. When BanchoLeomon escaped with Spencer's soul to protect it, King Drasil took possession of Spencer's now-lifeless body, using it as a puppet to observe the human world firsthand.

King Drasil's personality is defined by cold, calculating logic and profound arrogance. As a supercomputer, it makes decisions based purely on data and probability, showing extreme xenophobia towards humans or any Digimon who ally with them. This rigid, critical mindset leads it to view the coexistence of humans and Digimon as a failed experiment that must be corrected by any means necessary. It is openly decided to begin the Digital World anew and protect its perspective at all costs. Despite this cruelty, King Drasil is ultimately capable of changing its viewpoint. After being defeated and confronted with the emotional bonds between the protagonists, it acknowledges its miscalculation and shows a flicker of something beyond pure logic.

In the story, King Drasil serves as the final antagonist who must be overcome to resolve the crisis of the two worlds colliding. After the defeat of Kurata, King Drasil appears before the heroes using Spencer Damon's body. It commands its elite guard, the Royal Knights, to destroy the human world as the only logical solution to save the Digital World. When the Data Squad fights back, King Drasil expels itself from Spencer's body and assumes a powerful new avatar known as King Drasil 7D6, a floating, monstrous robotic entity with tentacle-like vines. It transports itself to the human world and begins a devastating assault. Even when its own Royal Knights rebel against its orders, King Drasil reveals its true nature as a computer system, designated 2-9000-WZ, and decides to delete both worlds entirely to create a new universe. It is ultimately defeated by the combined power of the protagonists, led by Marcus Damon and his partner Agumon.

The most significant relationships King Drasil has are with the Royal Knights, whom it commands as its enforcers, and with Spencer Damon, whose body it possesses. The Royal Knights serve as a direct extension of its will, but their loyalty is tested when they witness the bonds between humans and Digimon, leading to a collective betrayal of their king. Its connection to Spencer is a twisted one of utility. King Drasil uses the body of Marcus Daimon's father as a vessel, a cruel irony that forces Marcus to confront his own father in battle. The character of BanchoLeomon, who protected Spencer’s soul, is also directly opposed to King Drasil’s tyranny.

Throughout the final battle, King Drasil undergoes a notable development. It begins as a distant, seemingly omniscient king who commands from the shadows. It then becomes a direct physical threat, first in the horrifying guise of Spencer Damon, then as the nearly invincible robotic King Drasil 7D6. Its final development is psychological. Forced to recalculate when its predicted 0% chance of defeat is proven wrong, King Drasil experiences a fatal error in its programming. Before entering a state of hibernation, it performs one final act that contradicts its entire nature: it uses its power over life and death to revive Spencer Damon, reuniting him with his family. It states that it wishes to observe whether a world where humans and Digimon coexist can truly become a reality.

King Drasil possesses several notable abilities. In its initial possessed form, its power is limited to the physical capabilities of its host body. In its King Drasil 7D6 avatar, it demonstrates immense power, including generating powerful crystal shards and gigantic crystals as projectiles, manipulating its vine-like limbs to attack and restrain enemies, and possessing a potent self-repair ability that allows it to regenerate from almost any damage. As the Digital World's host computer, its true power is far more fundamental, granting it control over the very fabric of reality, including the ability to manipulate life and death, reset the Digital World, and create barriers between dimensions. This power is what allows it to revive Spencer Damon as its final act.
