Description
Keenan Crier, known as Ikuto Noguchi in the original Japanese version, is a principal character introduced in the anime Digimon Data Squad. He is the human partner of the Digimon Falcomon.

Keenan's background is highly unusual and serves as the foundation for his worldview. He was born on Earth to scientists Kevin and Michelle Crier but, as an infant, was accidentally transported into the Digital World through an unstable digital portal. Stranded there, he was discovered and raised by a kind Frigimon, who became his foster mother. He grew up alongside Digimon, considering himself one of them and knowing nothing of his human origins. Tragically, when the villainous scientist Kurata launched a genocidal campaign against the Digital World, Frigimon was destroyed before Keenan's eyes while trying to protect him. Following this trauma, the powerful Digimon Merukimon took him in and raised him further, instilling in him a fierce commitment to protecting the Digital World.

The defining aspect of Keenan's personality, particularly in his early appearances, is a deep-seated hatred and distrust of all humans, stemming directly from witnessing his foster mother's death at Kurata's hands. He is initially hostile and aggressive, attacking the DATS team upon their arrival in the Digital World. However, beneath this feral exterior lies a kind-hearted, loyal, and justice-driven individual. He has a strong sense of honor, is prone to impulsive actions, and will risk his own safety to protect others, both human and Digimon. His manner of speaking is distinctive, often referring to himself with "me" instead of "I," a linguistic relic of his isolated upbringing among Digimon. As he integrates into human society, he retains a "wild boy" sensibility, preferring fruits and grains over meat and displaying a natural comfort in nature.

Keenan’s primary motivation evolves over the course of the narrative. Initially, he is driven by a desire to defend the Digital World and avenge his foster mother by fighting against human intruders. After being forcibly brought to the human world, his motivations become more complex. He learns the truth about his birth parents and the accidental nature of his disappearance, forcing him to confront his own humanity. His goal shifts from revenge to a desire for true peace and understanding between the human and Digital Worlds. He is also motivated by a need to protect his newfound friends, particularly the Damon family who take him in, and to stop Kurata from causing further destruction.

Within the story, Keenan serves as a bridge between the two worlds, embodying the central conflict of the series. Unlike the other main human characters who are agents of DATS, Keenan begins as an antagonist representing the Digital World's perspective. His role is to challenge the audience's and the other characters' assumptions about the conflict, showing that humans are not universally good and Digimon are not universally victims. As he slowly joins the main group, he becomes a crucial fighter and a source of unique insight, understanding Digimon's feelings and the Digital World's ecology in a way that his teammates cannot. He is instrumental in revealing Kurata's true evil nature and helping to rally the Digimon against the Royal Knights later in the series.

Key relationships are central to Keenan's character development. His bond with his partner Falcomon is one of deep, brotherly trust; they have grown up together and are inseparable. His relationship with Marcus Damon is particularly transformative. Initially enemies, Keenan comes to respect Marcus's strength, honor, and unwavering spirit, eventually viewing him as a surrogate older brother. Living with the Damon family, including Marcus's mother Sarah and younger sister Kristy, introduces Keenan to a loving human family and helps him heal from his past trauma. His reunions with his biological parents, Kevin and Michelle, and his younger sister are poignant and difficult, forcing him to reconcile his identity as both a human and a child of Digimon. Finally, his memories of Frigimon and his time with Merukimon remain powerful emotional drivers, and his reconciliation with their memories is key to his emotional maturity.

Keenan undergoes significant development from a wild, vengeful child to a more balanced and self-aware young man. He begins by rejecting his own humanity, but through his interactions with the DATS team and the discovery of his birth family, he learns that humans and Digimon can coexist peacefully. A pivotal moment is Merukimon's death, where the Digimon ruler's final words convince Keenan that not all humans are evil, only those who choose to be. He accepts that he is both human and Digimon in spirit, which allows his Digi-Soul to awaken fully. By the series' conclusion, he has shed his initial hostility, gained confidence, and committed to protecting both worlds. An epilogue shows him years later living a normal life, attending school, having removed his facial markings, and having developed a close friendship with Kristy Damon.

In terms of abilities, Keenan is an exceptionally skilled fighter for his age, having been raised in the harsh environment of the Digital World. His fighting style is agile and ninja-like, mirroring the techniques of his partner Falcomon. He is proficient with a boomerang as his primary weapon and wears a distinctive feathered cape and necklace. His true power, however, manifests as a potent Digi-Soul, the energy used to digivolve his partner. Initially volatile and difficult to control, his Digi-Soul grows stronger as he matures emotionally, allowing Falcomon to achieve higher forms. He can achieve champion level Peckmon, ultimate level Crowmon (Yatagaramon), and mega level Ravemon. At the climax of his development, he is able to access Ravemon Burst Mode, an extraordinarily powerful form achieved when a human and Digimon partner reach the pinnacle of their bond.
