Description
Ender is a character from the anime.hack//Roots, and serves as a secret high-ranking member of the guild known as TaN. Within the game The World R:2, she is a female Human player character belonging to the Blade Brandier class, which specializes in powerful melee attacks. Her in-game appearance is distinctive: she is depicted as a dark-skinned woman with short green hair and bright yellow eyes, typically wearing scant blue plate armor that covers her entire left leg and left arm. Numerous wave-like symbols are tattooed across her body, and she is very rarely seen without a bladed weapon, usually a knife or similar implement.

Offline, the person controlling Ender is Reiko Saeki, a 24-year-old system administrator for CC Corp, the company that manages The World. This makes her the same individual behind the character Pi, who appears later in the series. This dual role as both a player and an administrator heavily influences her actions.

Ender possesses a disturbing and ruthless personality. She is a formidable and powerful Player Killer, or PKer, who derives genuine pleasure from hunting down and eliminating other players. However, she is not interested in random, easy kills. Her primary focus is on players who can actually pose a significant challenge to her abilities, and she tends to ignore weak newcomers who do not present any kind of threat. Beyond the thrill of the hunt, she is also deeply fascinated by the various weapons that exist within the game world. She can often be found examining rare and unusual weapons that pass through the TaN guild headquarters. While some interpretations suggest her aggressive personality might have been a form of camouflage for her true duties, her actions consistently demonstrate a cold and efficient dedication to her mission.

Her primary motivation is tied directly to her role within TaN and her secret identity as a system administrator. She follows the orders of her guild leader, Naobi, without question. She is given the task of investigating the relationship between the mysterious player Ovan and a newbie named Haseo. Her mission evolves from simple surveillance to direct, aggressive action. She is ordered to track down and Player Kill members of Ovan’s guild, the Twilight Brigade, successfully defeating characters such as Tabby and Gord. She also leads a small group of powerful Player Killers, referred to as a Black Ops team, who are loyal only to her and Naobi. This group is tasked with carrying out the guild's more illicit and disruptive activities, including breaking the rules of the game to trap Ovan in a special dungeon.

Throughout the story, Ender serves as a direct antagonist to Haseo and the Twilight Brigade, acting as the visible enforcement arm of TaN. Her key relationships are almost entirely professional. She answers directly to Naobi, works alongside a guildmate named Tawaraya to keep tabs on Haseo, and commands her squad of Black Ops PKers on dangerous missions. Her targets include Haseo, Shino, and other members of the Twilight Brigade, whom she views as obstacles to be eliminated.

The character undergoes a significant development by the end of her role in.hack//Roots. After the Twilight Brigade successfully submits evidence of TaN's numerous illegal activities to the game's system administrators, Ender and Naobi are forced to abandon their current plans. In a calculated move, Ender discards her Ender character entirely. She then resumes her true identity as the System Administrator Pi, revealing that her time as a violent guild member was merely an undercover operation. As a notable display of her abilities, she controls a specialized Black Ops team, ordering them to attack the Twilight Brigade during a critical mission. This assault forces the Brigade to split up, leaving Ovan isolated and allowing Naobi's trap to work as intended.
