Description
Kazuya Shiranami is a central character in Galaxy Angel Rune, serving as the first male member of the Angel Troupe. He is a young man of 16 or 17 years, born on December 27, with brown hair and blue-gray eyes, standing at approximately 160 to 162 centimeters tall. His blood type is O. Hailing from the newly discovered dimension of NEUE, Kazuya was a star student at a prestigious culinary school, where he specialized in making confectionery and desserts. It was there he befriended a fellow chef named Lunti Fiadone. Following his studies, he worked part-time at a cafe, a job that led to him being forced to cross-dress as a waitress on multiple occasions to attract more customers. It was from this cafe that his managers submitted his application to the military, enlisting him in the Rune Angel Wing.

His personality is defined by a juxtaposition of traits. On one hand, he is described as a diligent, hardworking, and serious young man who is rather docile, meek, and easily embarrassed, especially by members of the opposite sex. This shyness is often a source of comedic relief in the series, such as when he reacts with extreme awkwardness to the forward behavior of his teammate Anise Azeat. On the other hand, Kazuya possesses a courageous and dependable side, showing a deep care for his teammates and a willingness to put his life on the line to protect them. He is straightforward and sincere, but his gentle and indecisive nature often means he gets pushed around by the stronger personalities around him. He also holds a deep passion for cooking, particularly for trying new recipes and making desserts, a skill at which he excels beyond even his talented friend Lunti.

Before joining the Rune Angel Troupe, Kazuya was selected randomly from a pile of applications by Milfeulle Sakuraba, a former member of the original Moon Angel Troupe whose legendary good luck was a defining trait. His application was sent in by his cafe managers, making his selection a matter of chance. To prepare him for military life, he was trained by Forte Stollen, another ex-Moon Angel, who acted as his strict instructor. Upon joining the crew of the battleship Luxiole, he was at first overwhelmed by the easygoing and quirky atmosphere, which contrasted sharply with the disciplined regime he had just endured. He initially struggles with referring to his superiors casually, such as calling Lily C. Sherbet by her name rather than "Sherbet-senpai". However, he quickly befriends his new teammates, including Apricot "Rico" Sakuraba, Nano-Nano Pudding, and Kahlua Marjoram, and forms a particularly close bond with Lunti, the ship's head chef. Recognizing his growing competence and bravery, his commander, Tact Mayers, appoints Kazuya as the acting leader of the Rune Angel Troupe, a role he initially hesitates to accept but eventually grows into.

In battle, Kazuya pilots the unique Emblem Frame known as the Brave Heart (RA-000). Unlike standard Emblem Frames, the Brave Heart is lightly armed and armored but possesses the crucial ability to combine with any of the other Rune Angel Emblem Frames, acting as a powerful booster that significantly enhances their speed and firepower. In this combined state, Kazuya often serves as the gunner. He also pilots another assault fighter, the GA-007K, at certain points. Beyond his piloting skills, he has received hand-to-hand combat training and shows significant leadership potential, which leads to his promotion to team leader. He is also given an item called the "telepath fur," which allows him to sense the mental and emotional condition of his fellow pilots, enabling him to function as a field commander when communication systems are down. As his story progresses, Kazuya develops from a shy, hesitant recruit into a confident and reliable leader, taking responsibility for his team and playing a critical role in the major conflicts that threaten both the NEUE and EDEN dimensions.
