Description
Minako Kanō is a student at Higashi Shinmei High School, the same school where the protagonist Junichirō Kagami once studied and later worked as a substitute teacher. She was originally the leader of a delinquent gang known as the Black Oracle, a group that included members such as Miho Kitō, Seijūrō Nanami, and Taki Komiya. Her past as a gang leader stemmed from a deep disillusionment with the world, which she felt lacked heroes and meaningful justice. This cynicism drove her to become a delinquent who lashed out at society.
Her turning point came when she encountered Junichirō in an online chat. He told her, “If there are no heroes, become one yourself.” That simple but profound message inspired her to abandon her delinquent life and pursue a new dream: becoming a voice actress. This ambition reflects her desire to give life to characters who can embody the heroism she once felt was missing. She is known among her peers for her impulsive nature, particularly the habit of punching people without warning, which earned her the nickname “Face Punch” after she struck Junichirō on their first meeting.
In the story, Kanō is among the first students Junichirō interacts with, and his unconventional teaching methods help her channel her energy productively. She remains a supporting character after the narrative shifts to Ginkgo Academy, but she continues to appear occasionally, demonstrating her growth from a cynical troublemaker to a dedicated student working toward a career in anime voice acting. Her key relationships include her former gang members, who likewise undergo change thanks to Junichirō’s influence, and Junichirō himself, whom she respects as the catalyst for her reinvention.
Throughout her development, Kanō learns to replace her violent outbursts with determination and self‑discipline. Her notable abilities are her physical strength and toughness, remnants of her delinquent past, which she sometimes still uses but now in more controlled ways. She also shows a surprising capacity for focus when it comes to voice‑acting practice, indicating a hidden talent for performance. Her arc in Ultimate Otaku Teacher is one of personal transformation, driven by the belief that anyone can become a hero in their own way.
