TV-Series
Description
Candice is a recurring antagonist in the series, serving as one of the Knights within the military organization known as the Chess Pieces, where she holds the rank of the eleventh strongest Knight. Before joining the Chess Pieces, her background is that of a mercenary officer, a profession through which she became known for her violent and abusive personality.

Candice possesses a complex and notably sadomasochistic personality. She takes pleasure in both giving and receiving pain, a trait that defines her combat style. Before her defeat by the powerful Phantom, she was primarily a sadist. However, after losing to him, she realized that receiving pain could be as pleasurable as inflicting it, fully embracing a masochistic nature. In battle, she is merciless and cruel, but outside of combat, she can display a bubbly and easygoing demeanor, particularly when she is in the presence of Phantom or thinking about him. She dislikes being mocked for her nature, as seen when she reacts with fury to being called a freak.

Following her defeat at his hands, Candice fell deeply in love with Phantom. This unrequited passion becomes the central motivation for her actions. She is fiercely loyal to him and strives to complete difficult tasks and defeat powerful enemies in order to earn his commendation. Her ultimate goal is to help him succeed, and she is resolute in her desire to destroy anyone who obstructs his path. She envisions a world where all pain is distributed equally, with herself as the "Goddess of All Pain".

In the story, Candice first appears during Phantom's revival, informing him that Queen Diana has summoned him. During the Chess Pieces' war campaign, she demonstrates her power by single-handedly defeating the soldiers at Castle Geirelulu, using her ÄRM to turn them into stone. Her most prominent role comes during the War Games, where she is selected to fight in the fifth round. Her opponent is Jack, a member of the protagonist team, Team MÄR. Their battle is fierce and ends in a draw. After Phantom's ultimate defeat, Candice remains with him. In the manga, she accompanies him to Lestava Castle and witnesses his death as he rests on his throne. In the anime, she attempts to help him escape from Team MÄR, and her devotion deeply touches Phantom, allowing him to die in peace knowing he was not entirely hated. Her final appearance is with a revived Rolan, as they visit Phantom's grave together.

Candice has a key relationship with Phantom, which is the most significant of her life, though he does not reciprocate her romantic feelings. She also shares an unusual friendship with her fellow knight, Rolan. Despite their contrasting personalities, their bond is likely strengthened by their shared loyalty to Phantom. She has a notable rivalry with Jack, which plays out during their drawn-out fight in the War Games. Over the course of the series, Candice's development is tied to her unyielding devotion to Phantom. While she begins as a violent and cruel mercenary, her experiences with Phantom reshape her personality to include a masochistic side, and her ultimate arc culminates in her selfless attempts to save him, which finally break through to him on an emotional level.

As a knight of the Chess Pieces, Candice is a formidable fighter who primarily uses stone-based Nature ÄRMs. Her arsenal includes Boulder Axe, a large stone axe; Boulder Claw, which creates giant stone claws over her hands; Boulder Fang, which launches sharp rock shards; and Grand Boulder, which creates massive boulders. She also possesses the Kukan Teni, a Dimension ÄRM embedded in her eye that allows her to teleport by exchanging positions with another object. Her signature strategy involves using the Scale of Blessing, an ÄRM shaped like a clock that measures the injuries her body takes and converts them into magical power. She willingly absorbs her opponent's attacks, often reacting with pleasure to the pain, until the scale completes a full revolution. This accumulated power allows her to summon her most powerful Guardian ÄRM, Gorgon, a giant stone head with snakes for hair. Gorgon petrifies anyone who looks into its eyes, turning them to stone. In the anime adaptation, she also possesses another Guardian ÄRM called Lamia, which is a half-woman, half-serpent creature that can torment her foes with an enchanting song.
