TV-Series
Description
Michael Garret is the older brother of Wendy Garret and was her only remaining family member in the town of Evergreen after the death of their parents. When they were younger, he cared very deeply for her and protected her when their town was assaulted by bandits. Michael was later kidnapped from Evergreen and sold to the Claw, a man with an artificial claw hand who leads a secret organization. Initially taken against his will, Michael eventually chooses to join the Claw willingly in order to help realize the Claw’s dream of eradicating all sorrow on the planet by creating a new world.

In terms of personality, Michael is usually kind and compassionate, much like his sister, but he can also be fiercely independent when the situation calls for it. He carries an internal struggle with doubts about the project he has joined, especially when a mutinous group within the Claw’s organization attempts to rebel and tries to recruit him. However, he ultimately decides to remain loyal to the Claw and develops a deep emotional bond with Fasalina, another member of the Claw’s inner circle.

Michael serves as a member of the Original Seven, a group of pilots who control powerful mecha known as Original Armors. His role in the story is that of a key antagonist, piloting the armor Saudade of Sunday. He is one of only two members of the Original Seven, alongside Woo, who can control an Original Armor without requiring surgical implants embedded into his body, which is the primary reason the Claw selected him. This ability makes him a vital part of the Claw’s plan, and he proves to be a formidable opponent to the protagonist, Van.

His key relationships include his sister Wendy, whom he loved and protected but later comes into conflict with after he joins the Claw. Van, the main protagonist, becomes his adversary, and their battles are marked by Van constantly reminding Michael of his responsibilities toward Wendy, which enrages Michael and causes him to blame Van for leading Wendy away from Evergreen. Michael also shares a close bond with Fasalina, and the two appear to be lovers by the end of the series.

Throughout the series, Michael undergoes significant development. He begins as a missing person whom Wendy seeks to rescue, but when she finally finds him, she discovers that he is no longer being held against his will. His allegiance shifts from a caring brother to a devoted follower of the Claw, yet he continues to wrestle with misgivings. The climax of his arc occurs in the penultimate episode, where he confronts Wendy again. When she refuses to step aside and shoots him in the arm, he becomes enraged to the point of trying to strangle her, but he is stopped by her pet turtle, Kameo. Even so, he saves her from falling debris, and the siblings reach an understanding and part ways amicably. Michael gives his gun to Wendy, advising her to follow her own path while he follows his. He and Fasalina are last seen together as a boulder falls on them, strongly implying their deaths, though this is not explicitly confirmed.

Notable abilities include his natural aptitude for piloting the Original Armor Saudade of Sunday, which resembles an energy handgun. He operates this armor effectively in combat, even destroying two of the Original Seven satellites during a battle in space. He also possesses the rare capability to control an Original Armor without surgical implants, setting him apart from most other pilots.
