Description
Barrio is a supporting character from the anime GUNxSWORD, first appearing as one of the surviving members of a legendary armor rider team known as the El Dora Five. As a young man, he was characterized as a typical strong and honest individual. In his older years, Barrio has become noticeably more calm and composed, often spending his time reading books, though his physical strength remains the most formidable among his remaining teammates. He frequently uses the catchphrase "young pup" when addressing others.

Barrio's role in the story is centered on his past as a hero. He and his three companions—Nero, Josè, and Carlos—are veterans living in the desert town of Gloria, where they frequent a local bar called The Pink Amigo. They are known for their loud and nostalgic reminiscing about their glory days, which often annoys the town's younger generation who have come to doubt the truth of their heroic tales. Despite their age and the rust on their skills, they are driven by a deep-seated desire to protect their town and prove that their legacy is real.

In the El Dora Five, Barrio was the pilot of the Power Handers, the component that forms the arms and shoulders of the combined giant armor, El Dora. He is specifically in charge of the team's energy system, which is reflected in his battle-related commentary about power levels and energy recovery. The original five-person team also included a woman named Chizuru Steavens, who piloted the energy booster pack; she has since passed away, leaving her four former teammates to carry on her memory.

A key relationship for Barrio is with his comrade Carlos. Barrio often takes on the role of carrying the frequently drunk and sleeping Carlos on his back, demonstrating a patient and dependable nature. When a new threat, a mad scientist named Bucchi, attacks Gloria with a modern armor, Barrio and his fellow veterans are galvanized into action. They break out of jail to reclaim their old machines, but find that their individual armors are no match for the new enemy. Their development in the story is one of reaffirmation; by combining to form El Dora with the aid of the series protagonist, they successfully defeat the villain, reliving their heroic purpose and proving their worth to the skeptical younger generation. Barrio's notable abilities include his immense physical strength, which has persisted into his old age, and his skill in piloting his armor to manage and manipulate the energy systems required for the giant robot to function and combine.
