Description
George Miyagusuku is an Okinawan-American man and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He is the adoptive father of Saya, Kai, and Riku, and he runs a small pub or restaurant named Omoro. In terms of his background, George was present during a traumatic incident in Vietnam where Saya, in a berserk state, killed both enemies and allies alike. He was one of the few survivors of this event. Years before adopting Saya, George lost his wife and biological children in an accident. Following this personal tragedy, he was asked by a man named David, representing the organization Red Shield, to watch over Saya's sleeping body during one of her hibernation cycles. The sound of Saya's heartbeat coming from her cocoon gave him the will to continue living, and when she finally awoke, he decided to adopt her, seeing that she was no longer a threat. By that time, he had also adopted Kai and Riku, who were the children of friends who had died.

Personality wise, George is characterized as a profoundly kind and jovial person who is almost always cheerful around his children. He has a very strong sense of morality and a protective nature. This is demonstrated when a chiropteran attacks and Saya hesitates to fight; George defends her without hesitation, acting as a true father figure. He is a central pillar of support for Saya, being the only one able to bring out her more human and cheerful side, and he works hard to maintain a peaceful family life for her and his sons.

George plays a pivotal role in the story as the anchor of Saya's humanity. He represents the normal, peaceful life she is fighting to protect. His motivations are consistently driven by his love and duty to protect his family. He initially tries to prevent David from revealing the truth about Saya's past to her, hoping to shield her from pain. However, he ultimately recognizes that she must confront her destiny.

His key relationships are centered on his family. To Saya, he is the only father she has ever known, and her bond with him is the most significant human connection she has. To Kai and Riku, he is a loving and supportive father who taught them how to play baseball. George is also connected to the broader Red Shield organization, particularly through David, who provides financial support for Saya's care.

Over the course of the narrative, George undergoes a tragic character arc. While protecting Saya from a chiropteran attack, he is severely wounded and subsequently kidnapped from a hospital by the US military. He is then subjected to experiments involving a substance called Delta 67, which, combined with his chiropteran wounds, begins to transform him into a chiropteran. Refusing to exist as a monster and demonstrating his strong moral character, he pleads with Saya to kill him while he still retains his human will. In a heartbreaking scene, he forces her blood into his wounds, which causes him to crystallize and die as a human. A fragment of the blood crystal from his body is later used in the forging of a new katana for Saya.

In terms of notable abilities, George is proficient with firearms as a result of his military service, and his gun is eventually passed down to Kai. He is also a skilled cook, which is why he chose to run his own restaurant, and he enjoys playing the shamisen, a traditional Japanese guitar, on special occasions at the Omoro tavern. He also taught his sons to play baseball.
