Description
Raizō Mine is a supporting character in the anime Detective Conan: Conan vs. Kid vs. Yaiba – The Grand Battle for the Treasure Sword. He comes from Gosho Aoyama’s manga Yaiba, where he is established as the father of Sayaka Mine and an old rival of Kenjuro Kurogane, the father of the young swordsman Yaiba Kurogane. Raizō is a kendo master and runs his own kendo dojo in Tokyo, and the Mine household is the place where Yaiba stays during his time in Japan.
In the crossover story, Raizō is the owner of a treasured family sword that becomes the target of the phantom thief Kaitou Kid, who sends a theft notice announcing his intention to take it. Worried about the safety of his prized blade, Raizō is relieved when the famous detective Kogoro Mouri comes to his house to help guard it. The conflict of the story revolves around this sword, as Kaitou Kid attempts to steal it while Yaiba and the detective side work to keep it out of his hands. After Kaitou Kid is finally blasted away and the sword is recovered, Raizō thanks Shinichi Kudo for returning the treasured sword to him.
Personality-wise, Raizō comes across as a proud and earnest swordsman who cares deeply about his family’s treasured heirloom. He is welcoming toward those who offer him assistance and shows genuine appreciation when the sword is safely recovered. His main motivation in the story is to protect the treasured sword from being stolen, and his gratitude at the end reflects how much the blade means to him.
His key relationships include his daughter Sayaka, his longtime rival Kenjuro Kurogane, and Yaiba, who lives with the Mine family. During the events of the anime, he also interacts with Kogoro Mouri and Shinichi Kudo, as well as Kaitou Kid, who serves as the threat to his treasured sword.
In terms of ability, Raizō is highly skilled in swordsmanship, being described as a kendo master and the head of his own dojo. His role in the crossover is relatively brief, and he does not undergo significant personal development, but he serves as the character whose cherished sword sets the central conflict in motion and whose gratitude closes the story on a positive note.
