Description
Lisianthus Eustoma, often called Sia for short, is a main character in the anime and visual novel series Shuffle!. She is the only daughter of Eustoma, the King of the Gods, and Cineraria, which makes her of mixed heritage, being half-god and half-devil, though she only inherited the racial characteristics of the god side. Through her mother, she is the niece of Forbesii and the cousin of Nerine. Eustoma practices polygamy, making Iris and Liliac her non-biological mothers as well. She is a second-year student at Verbena Academy and stands 160 centimeters tall, with a birthday on July 30.
Lisianthus was originally meant to be born with a twin sister named Kikyou, but it was fated that Kikyou would not survive in the womb. Determined to save her sister, Lisianthus absorbed Kikyou's soul into her own body. This act resulted in a dissociative identity disorder, where Kikyou's personality sometimes emerges from within her. This duality is a significant aspect of her character, as her own bright and outgoing nature contrasts with the darker, more devilish personality of her twin.
Her personality is defined by an energetic, outgoing, and optimistic nature. She is bright and can start a conversation easily with anyone, quickly setting a cheerful mood. She is boastful at times but holds great optimism. While she excels at sports, cooking, and housework, she is notably poor at academics. Despite her deep fondness for her father, she has a peculiar and well-known habit of hitting him with a folding chair, in a manner reminiscent of professional wrestling, whenever he embarrasses her in front of her friends.
Her primary motivation stems from a single childhood memory. When she was eight years old, she became separated from her father and was crying. A young Rin Tsuchimi found her and cheered her up until she was reunited with her father. This act of kindness made her fall in love with him, and this memory eventually drives her to come to the human world as a marriage candidate for Rin. She is grateful for his past kindness and hopes to build a future with him.
In the story, Lisianthus is one of the central heroines and a primary love interest for Rin. She, along with Nerine, transfers to Verbena Academy and moves in next door to Rin. Her role is to pursue a romantic relationship with him while also navigating her life as a princess from the god world living among humans. Her presence, along with the other candidates, forms the core romantic conflict of the series.
Her most important relationship is with Rin Tsuchimi, whom she loves and has admired since childhood. She also shares a close, familial bond with her cousin Nerine, who is from the devil world and is also a marriage candidate, creating a friendly but competitive dynamic. Her relationship with her father is affectionate but strained by his embarrassing behavior, which she physically punishes. The internal relationship with her twin sister Kikyou is central to her personal arc, as Kikyou's personality can emerge, creating conflict and revealing a hidden, more volatile side.
Lisianthus undergoes development primarily through the revelation of her condition and the emergence of Kikyou's personality. This challenges her generally cheerful demeanor and forces her to confront the consequences of her childhood decision to absorb her sister's soul. Throughout her character route, she learns to accept this part of herself and seeks a way to coexist with or resolve the presence of Kikyou, leading to a deeper understanding of her own identity.
Notable abilities include her exceptional physical skill in sports and her talent for cooking and domestic tasks. As a member of the god race, she likely possesses some innate magical ability, though it is not as prominently featured as her physical and social talents. Her most unique and defining trait is the dissociative identity disorder, which allows Kikyou's personality to emerge, granting her a different set of behaviors and a more devilish demeanor at times.
