Description
Aka Onda is a twenty-year-old aspiring voice actress and the central character of the story. Her career is at its earliest stage, often referred to as an egg, meaning she is a rookie still striving for her big break in the competitive voice acting industry. She is a young woman with red hair and red eyes, typically seen with a ponytail and casual but neat clothing such as turtlenecks and skirts. Her most notable personal trait is her deep and passionate admiration for the classic Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn. This admiration goes beyond simple fandom; Aka often spontaneously quotes lines from Hepburn's films in daily conversation, a quirk that adds to her eccentric and unpredictable personality. She is generally cheerful, optimistic, and determined, approaching her professional challenges with a bright attitude even when facing rejection. Despite her enthusiasm, she can also be naive about the harsh realities of the entertainment world, though this naivety is tempered by a strong resolve to succeed.

Aka's primary motivation is to become a successful voice actress, and she pursues this dream with dedication and passion. Her professional life receives its first significant boost when she is cast as the voice of Nekoki, a cat-headed tree mascot for a new snack product called Ha. This role is directly tied to her personal life, as the product is being marketed by Fumihiko Matsumaru, a salaryman who works for the snack company. Aka and Fumihiko meet by chance outside a movie theater after he has been stood up on a date; she convinces him to let her use the spare ticket so it would not go to waste. Later that same night, Aka's apartment catches fire and burns down, leaving her with nothing. Fumihiko, who lives in the same neighborhood, invites her to stay at his apartment, an arrangement that leads to them sleeping together that first night. This event forms the complicated crux of their relationship. Although they begin living together platonically afterward, they struggle to define their connection, usually asserting that they are just friends while navigating the romantic tension between them.

Aka's role in the story is defined by this intertwining of her professional and private lives. As she lives with Fumihiko, she simultaneously begins working with him professionally when he hires her voice for his project. The two must keep their live-in arrangement a secret, fearing it could damage her budding career and his professional reputation. Their relationship is characterized by a push-and-pull dynamic. While Aka is clearly in love with Fumihiko, she is very shy about physical intimacy and becomes easily embarrassed, often reacting with a sharp strike if he acts lecherous. Her character development focuses on her growth both as a performer and as a partner. As she gains more confidence and her career begins to show signs of rising popularity, she is forced to confront difficult questions about how to balance her professional ambitions with her personal feelings for Fumihiko, particularly whether it is right to prioritize her career at the expense of their time together. Her journey is one of self-discovery, learning to navigate the complexities of a serious adult relationship while fighting to establish herself in a demanding industry. Her notable abilities include her talent for voice acting, which allows her to bring the character Nekoki to life, and her remarkable adaptability, as she handles the sudden upheaval of losing her home and the unusual living situation that follows with a level of composure and grace.
