Movie
Description
Daichi Sumeragi is a young and hyperactive blader who appears as a major character in Beyblade: G-Revolution and the film Beyblade: The Movie - Fierce Battle. He is a short boy with distinctive flaming red, spiky hair and green eyes, including a small X-shaped scar in the middle of his forehead. His typical outfit consists of a sleeveless blue ripped shirt with matching wristbands, light blue jeans that are torn on one leg, and a black belt with a bronze buckle.
Daichi hails from a forest environment where he grew up without formal stadiums, instead training and perfecting his beyblading style on natural terrain such as mountains, water, and wooded areas. This upbringing gives him a significant advantage when battling outdoors in natural settings compared to standard dishes. His father was a strong forest wood cutter who passed away in an accident while trying to save coworkers from falling tree trunks, and before his death he entrusted Daichi with the powerful bit-beast known as Strata Dragoon, called Gaia Dragoon in the original Japanese version. This inheritance became the driving force behind Daichi's promise to become Japan's best blader.
In terms of personality, Daichi is extremely strong-willed and persistent, possessing a never give up attitude that closely resembles that of his rival and friend, Tyson Granger. He exhibits over-confidence in his abilities, which can lead to defeats against more skilled opponents, but this rarely dampens his enthusiasm. Daichi serves as a significant source of comic relief, displaying a notable fear of flying, a constant appetite for eating, and a habit of playfully heckling and challenging Tyson. His rural upbringing means he lacks a formal academic education, and he can become confused by simple urban concepts such as how a newspaper works.
Daichi plays a central role in Fierce Battle, where his unexpected clash with Tyson releases the Dark Beasts that had been sealed away on Demon Rock Island. During the film, Daichi is captured and corrupted by the Shadow Bladers who seek the power of Gaia Dragoon, but he eventually breaks free from their control and forges a stronger bond with his bit-beast. In G-Revolution, he is introduced by challenging Tyson to a battle, and eventually becomes Tyson's tag team partner in tournaments as a member of the G Revolutions and BBA Revolution teams. He demonstrates his skill by defeating strong opponents such as Rick of the PPB All Starz and Tala.
Key relationships define much of Daichi's development. His bond with his late father is the emotional foundation of his character, as Strata Dragoon represents both a cherished inheritance and a promise to be fulfilled. With Tyson, Daichi shares a competitive yet friendly rivalry filled with constant arguments, eating contests, and mutual respect, with Tyson often calling him monkeyboy. Daichi greatly admires Tyson's grandfather, who often takes his side during disagreements. He also develops a close friendship with Max Tate, even living with Max and his father after seeing Tyson receive excessive attention from tournament victories. Despite rarely speaking directly, Daichi holds deep respect for Kai Hiwatari, which grows after witnessing Kai defeat Brooklyn. He has a habit of irritating Hilary Tachibana with nicknames such as hag or grandma, often leading to comedic confrontations.
Throughout the series, Daichi shows notable development as a blader. His bit-beast, Strata Dragoon, is a variant of Dragoon that surprises Tyson, who believed his own was unique. Together, Tyson and Daichi can unleash a combination attack known as the Twin Tornado Attack. All of Strata Dragoon's attacks are based on cutting tools, reflecting Daichi's father's profession as a logger. After his initial Strata Dragoon is damaged beyond repair, Kenny creates an upgraded version called Strata Dragoon Great, which Daichi initially hesitates to accept but eventually comes to love for its superior performance. Daichi's abilities include impressive natural battling instincts and powerful attacks such as Vast Hurricane, Vast Cutter, Great Cutter, and Ultimate Great Cutter. While he can compete with the best bladers and is considered a prodigy, he sometimes lacks the guidance and experience needed to fully harness his potential, a situation that mirrors Tyson in the first season of the series.
