Description
Kyura is one of the four antagonists in the anime film InuYasha the Movie 4: Fire on the Mystic Island, where he serves as a member of the group known as the Four War Gods. Each of these four beings is based on one of the Four Sacred Animals of Chinese mythology and astronomy. Kyura is aligned with the phoenix Suzaku and represents the element of fire. His background is tied to the history of Horai Island, a mystical location that appears once every fifty years and once served as a haven for half-demon children. Long ago, the Four War Gods attacked the island and caused great bloodshed, eventually gaining control over it. However, the priestess Kanade managed to seal their power spheres in a sacred comb box, preventing them from accessing their full strength. To gradually reclaim their lost power, the Four War Gods began sacrificing half-demon children to a volcanic cauldron on the island, marking the children with four crimson scars to prevent them from leaving. In the past, Kyura faced Sesshomaru and gave him the four scars, marking him as a target. Fifty years before the events of the film, Kyura and his fellow War Gods also encountered Inuyasha and the priestess Kikyo when they attempted to stop the sacrifices, with Inuyasha also receiving the four scars. Kyura's personality is that of a cruel and arrogant demon who shows no mercy toward his victims. His primary motivation is to regain his full power and dominate the island, and later to wipe out its population before leaving. He is fiercely loyal to his group and works alongside the other War Gods toward their shared goal. In the story, Kyura plays the role of a supporting antagonist who confronts Sesshomaru. He uses his abilities in an attempt to defeat Sesshomaru, but ultimately he is killed by him. Key relationships include his bond with the other War Gods, particularly Ryura as the leader, and his conflict with Sesshomaru, whom he had previously marked. Kyura's most notable abilities are fire-based. He wields a weapon called the Crimson Fan, which allows him to release flames in the form of birds that can incinerate his enemies. He also has a technique called the Crimson Demon Fan, which creates a flaming tornado that can trap opponents. Among the Four War Gods, he is considered the weakest member. His development is limited, as he does not change or grow over the course of the film; he remains a static villain who is ultimately defeated.
