Kagumi Fujino is a central figure in the "Hanging Balloons" narrative. She is intimately connected to Terumi Fujino, a popular idol whose suicide by hanging ignites supernatural occurrences. Kagumi is present during the initial chaos when giant humanoid balloons, resembling the heads of living people, manifest across the city. These deadly manifestations actively hunt their human counterparts to hang them. Kagumi witnesses multiple attacks, including the deaths of acquaintances like Shinya Shiraishi. Her own balloon double appears and relentlessly pursues her. To survive, Kagumi seeks sanctuary with Kazuko Morinaka and others inside a barricaded house. Confined there, she endures intense psychological distress and crippling paranoia as the balloons besiege the building. She survives several close calls when the balloons breach defenses, including a direct assault where she survives a strangulation attempt as her balloon double is momentarily repelled. While many others perish, Kagumi remains alive, forced into constant hiding as her balloon double continues its hunt. Her ultimate fate remains unresolved, with the narrative concluding as she remains locked in an endless game of evasion against her relentless pursuer.
