Description
Hikaru Mido is a fictional character from the anime and manga series Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase. She is a young girl who serves as a supporting character, primarily defined by her role as one half of a pair of twin sisters from the spiritually gifted Mido family.
Hikaru is identifiable by her short dark blue hair and matching indigo eyes, and she is almost always seen wearing the traditional white and red robes of a miko, or shrine maiden. As a member of the Mido clan, she was raised in an environment deeply connected to exorcism and spiritual warfare, which heavily influences her demeanor and skills.
In terms of personality, Hikaru is brash, confrontational, and headstrong. Unlike her twin sister Kaoru, who is gentle and prone to tears, Hikaru is outgoing and quick to pick fights, most notably with the series protagonist, a vampire girl named Hazuki. Despite her argumentative nature, she is not malicious. Her fierce loyalty is reserved for her family, particularly her sister, whom she loves and defends against anyone she perceives as a threat.
Hikaru's primary role in the story is intertwined with the Mido family's involvement. The clan, being powerful psychics, initially finds themselves at odds with Hazuki, who has taken a liking to their relative, the photographer Kouhei Morioka. Hikaru and Kaoru are particularly invested because they are engaged to Kouhei and his cousin Seiji, respectively, a family arrangement that puts them in direct rivalry with the vampire newcomer. Throughout the series, Hikaru functions as a protector of her family's shrine and a combatant against supernatural threats, often fighting alongside her sister and other family members to defend their home from hostile vampires.
A key relationship is the polar opposite dynamic she shares with her twin, Kaoru. Where Kaoru is soft and emotional, Hikaru is tough and acts as the defender, frequently speaking for both of them. Her relationship with Kouhei is also notable; though she bullies Hazuki, she enjoys a more amicable alliance with him, who often takes her side in petty squabbles.
Hikaru demonstrates notable development and resilience as the story progresses. While she starts as a rival, she eventually joins forces with Hazuki when the Mido estate is attacked. In a notable turn of events during the manga storyline, she is forced to become the servant of an ancient and powerful vampire known as The UnNamed One in order to save her sister. This relationship is complex, as her new master does not strip her of free will except in extreme circumstances, though Hikaru remains wary and fearful of her.
Her notable abilities derive from her clan's psychic heritage. As a trained exorcist, Hikaru possesses offensive psychic powers and has undergone rigorous physical training that grants her exceptional quickness and agility. Her speed is considerable enough to allow her to keep pace with supernatural creatures such as vampires. She is a competent front-line fighter, capable of holding her own against powerful enemies to protect those she cares about.
