KOS-MOS, an acronym for Kosmos Obey Strategic Multiple Operation Systems, is a battle android developed by Vector Industries as an Anti-Gnosis weapon. She was originally conceptualized by Kevin Winnicot, who embedded several unknown black box components within her core. During an early activation, she went out of control, killing Kevin and most of the development team. Shion Uzuki, a colleague who survived the incident, was appointed as the chief engineer of the KOS-MOS Project. Several years later, KOS-MOS self-activated aboard the cruiser Woglinde during a Gnosis attack to protect Shion, bringing her fully online. She operates on a framework of strict logic, probability, and mission completion. Equipped with a Simulated Personality OS to facilitate communication, she rarely displays programmed emotions and generally appears emotionless. Her highest directive is the unconditional protection of Shion Uzuki, which can override her standard logical parameters. This adherence to her mission can manifest in extreme acts, such as eliminating allied personnel who impede her objectives. Her motivations are primarily rooted in destroying the Gnosis and protecting Shion, though her black box systems contain unknown directives tied to the Zohar. She serves as the primary combat asset for her allies, providing overwhelming firepower against the Gnosis. Her bond with Shion is central to the narrative, representing the conflict between her programming and her emerging sense of self. Over the course of the story, KOS-MOS begins to show signs of growth beyond her original parameters. A secondary persona, distinguished by blue eyes and a more empathetic human tone, emerges in moments of extreme crisis for Shion. This persona, identified as Mary Magdalene, is vastly more powerful and hints at a consciousness deeper than her original programming. Her body is composed of nanomachines, granting her superhuman strength and speed, the ability to morph her limbs into various energy blades and projectile weapons, and advanced self-repair capabilities. She possesses a powerful Hilbert Effect projector capable of disabling the Gnosis, and her signature weapon is the X-BUSTER, a devastating energy discharge from her abdomen that absorbs Gnosis. Her connection to the Zohar through her black box components grants her access to immense, potentially reality-altering power.
