Description
Pyoro is a small navigation robot, originally part of the automated systems aboard the colony ship Ikazuchi, which was later converted into a warship. When the Ikazuchi merged with the pirate vessel to become the Nirvana, Pyoro was overloaded with an intense electric shock and became self-aware, gaining the ability to speak on his own. The ship's chief engineer gave him the name Pyoro after hearing him talk.
In personality, Pyoro is lively and talkative, frequently repeating his own name even when he is not part of a conversation. His emotions are closely tied to the condition of the Nirvana, and he behaves as though he is sick whenever something is wrong with the ship. After gaining self-awareness, he develops a strong attachment to the crew and seems driven by curiosity and a desire to be helpful.
Within the story, Pyoro serves as the Nirvana's navigation and interface robot, and he is most often seen near Hibiki Tokai or Parfet Balblair. Parfet uses Pyoro as a conduit to the Piksis, the mysterious energy source that powers much of the ship's technology, and Pyoro also acts as a go-between for the ship's systems and the crew. During the Nirvana's second battle with a harvester mothership, he becomes the core of the Super Vandread transformation, which combines the Dreads piloted by Dita, Meia, and Jura with Hibiki's Vanguard and Pyoro himself.
His key relationships are with the crew of the Nirvana, particularly Hibiki and Parfet. When Ezra is discovered to be pregnant, Pyoro becomes intensely curious about babies and how humans are born. After the child is born, he takes on the role of nanny and insists that everyone call the baby Pyoro2, even though Ezra has already named her Calua.
His notable abilities include self-awareness and speech, an empathic connection to the ship's condition, the capacity to channel the Piksis energy, and the ability to serve as the central component in the Super Vandread formation. Pyoro does not appear in the manga adaptation, but within the anime he grows from a simple machine into a devoted and capable member of the ship's crew.
