Description
Dengakuman is a fictional character from the anime Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. His name is derived from dengaku, a Japanese dish of grilled tofu coated in a sweet miso glaze, which is served on a skewer and also happens to be his favorite food. Physically, he is a small, completely white, super-deformed creature with a pointed head that has a small ball attached to the top. He claims to be a dog and is five years old, which would make him thirty-five in dog years.
In terms of background, Dengakuman once held a significant position as the head of the Z-Block, which is considered the most powerful of the Hair Hunting blocks. Despite this title, he is largely portrayed as the "cute mascot character" of Bo-bobo's group. His personality is a mixture of cheerful friendliness and sudden, unpredictable violence, a trait his allies often bear the brunt of. His major concerns in life are simply to make people eat dengaku and to acquire as many friends as possible. His trademark catchphrase, which reflects this singular goal, is, "We'll make 'em eat grilled tofu dipped in miso on a stick!". However, he is frequently depicted as being extremely weak, and his allies, especially Bo-bobo, will often use him as a projectile or ignore him outright.
When he is first properly introduced, Dengakuman is presented as a lonely being with very few friends. Bo-bobo and his companions teach him the true meaning of friendship. Dengakuman repays this kindness by using his Super Dengaku Punch to save them from a deadly trap, officially joining their team as a result. Within the group, he seems to get along particularly well with the character Tokoro Tennosuke, and the two are often seen together during quieter moments. Despite his friendly intentions, his relationships are often comically dysfunctional; even after becoming an ally, Bo-bobo continues to use him as a throwing weapon. He has the ability to fuse with Bo-bobo, merging to create a blonde magical popstar known as Denbo, or Super Denbo-chan when fusing with the more powerful Super Bo-bobo.
While he is an accomplished master of the absurd fighting style called Hajike, with skills that have been compared to Bo-bobo himself, he very rarely chooses to fight. His most notable technique is the Super Dengaku Punch, a charged punch powerful enough to free his friends from a giant steel cage. Other abilities include the Dengaku Honey Butter Cannon Blast, in which he shoots himself from a cannon covered in honey butter, and the Double Dengaku Punches By Accident, where he throws himself bodily at an opponent. He can also summon a tank that fires missiles and globs of honey butter. Over the course of the series, Dengakuman serves as a small, resilient, and often overlooked member of the team, fulfilling his role as a loyal, if frequently abused, friend.
